Phil has shot some great pics of my backyard which to us is a million dollar view. We live on the 16th green of a golf course. I have looked at our scene many, many times, but Phil brought out some images that you could not imagine, especially the changing of the season & the beautiful fall colors. He can take an ordinary pansy or knock out rose & make a splendid pic of same. It's like an exceptional talent that he has in his eyes & spotting that right moment. He took a pic of a chickadee in our weeping willow tree and it was outstanding.

Phil has a gifted talent. You should be so lucky to have some of his works as I do.

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. To try your best to find out if a photographer actually loves his/her work, what they do. That they're not just doing it for the money. I shoot ten times more photos than I have on my website...just for me because I love it. I bought my present camera in the spring of '09 and to date (Dec 26, 2010) have shot 17,150 images with it.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. More than all of the expensive equipment that money can buy, more than the financial ability to travel to exotic locations, more than anything I can think of...the most important thing in photography is "the eye". There are many "picture takers" out there, but in order to be a "photographer" you must have the ability to determine "what is a shot" versus "what is not"! A certain amount of this can be taught, and the most important thing to recognize is "do I have it or not". And if I don't - get enrolled in some classes on composition and study hard. Find out if there is a camera club in your area and if so, join! Participate in all of their contests, attend their meetings, listen to the leaders...you will learn so much.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. From what others tell me, the colors, clarity, focus, and composition.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. The self satisfaction of being close to nature, and creating timeless works of photographic art that folks love enough to put in their home. That's priceless.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. "Did you really do that?" My answer "No...I bought it in a flea market"
Or...."where can I see all of your work". My website is www.philsphotoart.com.
"How do you do that?" ...."with a magic wand", it's called "Canon".
"Are you available for personal shoots?"...Most definitely!

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. I have too many to list. Many of my images have a story.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. First, what a profound pleasure I get from my work. Also, what it takes to get some of these images. Such as working in the heat and about to literally burn up. Or, working in Colorado in the fall and winter and about to literally freeze. I have shots taken when my fingers were so cold I could not feel the camera.
