A. Service & Repair and complete installation of residential Central Air Conditioning and Heating Systems.
Also Installation of Ice Machines......Building walk in coolers and freezers......Installing the refrigeration equipment....hanging the evaporator coil running the refrigeration lines....setting the condensing unit.....installing the controls as in defrost time clocks...high and low pressure cut out's.....fan cycling controls for low ambient conditions.....mounting thermostats.....soldering in solenoid valves and thermostatic expansion valves.....setting super heat and subcooling and also wiring all the controls in.....evacuating system and start-up.
Then after the system is up and running the subcooling and superheat must be set accurately for proper operation. These are alot of the things we deal with on a daily basis
A. Make sure you feel comfortable with your hvac provider.......check refrences and go with your gut feeling!
Going with the cheapest is defiantly not always the best.....remember you get what you pay for!!!
A. Well if I was a customer wanting to no more about the hvac industry I would start with the regulations to handle refrigerants like r22 and other ozone damaging freons.....I would also want to no about the replacement units for r22 when you have a system that uses r22 freon and a company comes out on lets say a problem call like no cool....and the tech comes to you and says your compressor is bad and your gonna have to replace the inside and outside unit due to the fact they dont manufacture any more r22 units! Tell them you want a second opinion! Therer are alot of companys out there thats doing that when in fact you do have a choice.
They make a unit thats not shipped with r22 refrigerant and the oil is compatable and will work just fine!! If you have just replaced your system and it runs on r22 freon dont be alarmed......there are replacement parts and no you do no have to change the entire system if something like the compressor fails.
A. When it comes to residential Air Conditioning & Heating the very best thing you can do even with a new system to get the best performance and work to it's max potential is have it serviced on a annual basis! Once before you start the heating and once before you start the cooling.....most service companys offer a year long service contract as I do and there not expensive compared to what it would cost you if you dont do it!
A. Our work stands out from other because at Discount Air Conditioning & Heating we no that quality craftsmanship and customer satisfaction are the 2 things that customers can identify with........typically a homeowner does not no how an Air Conditioning & Heating system works.......but they do no if it looks bad or sloppy......we make 100 percent sure that not only does it look great but it's operating to it's max potential!
A. Well the challenge of the most difficult hvac problems that other service providers cannot figure out.....there have been quite a few of them type's of calls where the customer say's Ive had 3 companies out here and the system is still doing the same thing.....so usually I will go out and spend the time to take all the required temperature and pressure readings that is needed to know exactly what the system is doing or not doing....there are many techs out there that will just change parts until they get the unit running.....what seperate the parts changers from the seasoned techs is knowing what the system is doing and why.....changing the part that has caused the system to fail and knowing what made that part fail.Thats a very rewarding feeling.....Knowing the homeowner is very happy that your fixed the problem and 100 percent pleased in your ability to find the problem and explain to them what was wrong and why it happened!
A. The most common question I get on a daily basis is how much do you charge?
I am willing to work with anyones budget.......we charge $75.00 to come out and diagnose the problem.......the travel charge is included in the $75.00 and if it's something simple like a burnt wire or something along them lines then all you pay is $75!.......but like I said everybody's situation is different and we treat everyone the same at Discount Air.
So I will work with anyone if there is a financial situation
A. My father was an Air Conditioning Heating & Refrigeration Contractor for over 50 yrs and I started working with him at the age of 15. I learned a lot from him and I also continued my education at UTI which is a trade school for hvac & refrigeration and I obtained all the certifications in this field I could.
A. Being a licensed contractor I have to do 8 hrs of continuing education every year before the TDLR will issue my new license.
I think it's a good thing and you can never have have to much knowledge on your trade! Like I have mentioned before...this is a trade that is constantly changing and you must stay on top of it!
This trade has changed so much from when I first started and is getting better but much more sophistacated with the solid state controls to new chlorine free refrigerants its just a must that you stay in tune with the mechanical and technical aspects of this industry.
A. My best advise would be to Learn everything you can about this trade.....study and get all the credentials you can. I started working in the field as an installer for my dad at age 14, I work long days and long hrs But I took advantage of the knowledge my father had in this industry and I asked questions about everything from the fundamentals of how an air conditioning system works..to location of where it should be placed and why..Duct sizing, design & layout,Manual J load calculations, Proper charging technics like superheat and subcool, Electrical wiring and circuits and countless other things! So by the time I was 19 I was a great installer and my father thought I was ready to learn the service side of the business and made me a tech helper but with in a year I was a actually running calls by myself and it sure was nice to be able to pick up the phone and call my dad cause I was stuck on something and could not fiqure it out, and my dad knew it would happen! It happens to all of us at one point or another in the early years.....but my father was a great teacher cause he made me think.....he knew the answer all along but made me not only earn it.. but learn it as well.
This is a profession that gets more advanced every year and if you don't keep up it will literally pass you up. So my advise is if you choose to get into the HVAC industry is to work hard and apply yourself...get all the proper certifications by the state, continue to educate yourself on changes being made in the industry. This is the only thing I have ever done and Im 45 now and I still love even the most complicated challenge to test my skills.
