Joel Hargett has a BS is Health Promotion and Fitness from the University of Texas, where he was a 5-time letter winner in track and field.

Joel's training philosophy is unique in that he believes in training movements, not muscles. Joel believes the body is designed to move in many different ways and should be trained with that in mind, so that an optimal fitness level is achieved through coordination, strength, agility, flexibility, and prevention of injury. He also believes that training should be intense yet evaluation-oriented; meaning, one should train in short bouts of intense exercise with little rest to optimize energy systems' training and fat utilization within the body all while listening to and observing the body’s reaction to movement.

Joel's training consists of a combination of strength training, calisthenics, Pilates, CrossFit, cardio, boxing, and plyometrics.

Joel is my one and only son. He is truly a great trainer and cares about each client that he trains on a very personal level. If he is not one of the most elite trainers in TEXAS, I would certainly like to see who was better overall. He worked extremely hard at UT to get to be in the National Track meet two times as a high jumper; he achieved above and beyond most expectations and he will take anyone who trains with him to a higher level. Trust me I have been thru several of his workouts. The workouts are always different and always fun, but extremely challenging.

Question and answer

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. My experience as a NCAA athlete as well as being a former CrossFit coach allow me to understand the limits of the human body as it pertains to training and the attainment of specific goals. Having trained over 50 clients ranging from 23-90 in age, I have developed a holistic approach to health and wellness that can be adapted to all ages and fitness levels.
I have a passion for nutrition and strongly recommend some sort of nutrition education/counseling in addition to personal training.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I love working with people and helping them live healthier lifestyles through nutrition and exercise. I really enjoying seeing people reach their goals by implementing simple tips on a daily basis.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. How do I lose the fat around my (fill in the blank). I will respond with a couple of statements, one being, "It all starts with what we put in our mouth. If we can effectively change our diet so that we are eating more often, cleaner, and colorful then we've got a great start increasing overall health." Second, "We've got to be exercising at least 3X per week at an increasingly intense manner for no longer than 45 minutes at a time."
