Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Look for companies that have been in business for a lengthly period. Don't use companies that are here today and gone tomorrow. You need a reliable company that will be there for all your future needs. The more years in business the better, that means that they care about this industry and their clients.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. That, unfortunately, there are scam artist in this business. They take the money and never complete the project or they don't pay the workers or suppliers on the job.You should never overpay a contract. A small deposit is fine but percentages are usually too high and only benefit the contractor. Of course, you should pay as you go but substantial work should be happening before checks are released.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I love the different people I get to meet. I also like the design aspect of my job. I can see a finished project before we even start. I like the idea of making a homeowners dream come true , when designing their backyard oasis. They have a vision and I get to make it come to life. Also, because of my experience I can tell them what won't work.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. A client had bought a foreclosure with a pool. After investigating , he found out that we had built the pool. He wanted to enlarge the pool, since he had a large family. He got several bids and we gave him one too. He signed a contract with us and said that were weren't the highest or the lowest quote but felt that since we built the original pool that we would do a great job making it their own. There was a mistake made when we dug the pool, we were short about 10-12", he asked for a meeting and we discussed the size. I had already made a decision that , of course, we were going to correct it, however I wanted to meet with him so that I could hear him out. He was surprised to my response. Later that day, I had an email from him waiting that he was sure that he made the right decision in hiring us.
