Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Shop around. Find someone who's style fits your personality and don't just go for the cheapest person. If you are on a budget, look for talented student photographers. But, realize that just because they are students doesn't mean they aren't good. They deserve to get paid. Don't expect anyone to do your portraits or wedding for free. It is not fair to the photographer or to yourself because in the end, spending a little bit of money will make a world of difference. People are more inclined to do a good job and care about their work if they are getting paid. Even if it is just a little bit of money.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. My work stands out from the competition in many ways. I am calm, organized, friendly and creative and my personality shows in my photos. On your big day, no matter what happens, I can work with anything or anyone in unpredictable circumstances. My photos are crisp, and my color photography is vibrant and bright. I also love black and white photos and I use both to create a whole, unique package. I love to use vintage props and the environment. I also love using the surroundings and natural light and putting them to work for me. With all that, I can convey a subject's personality and capture their story.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I love having my own business and being able to be creative and express myself. Also, I really enjoy being able to capture people's and animals' personalities in my photos. Being a photographer also allows me to do a little traveling. I like getting to see new and different places and meet new people. Also, I am always excited to be a part of someone's wedding. It is such a big day and I am glad that I can use my artistic skills to capture the whole process. I like taking photos because I feel like I am leaving my imprint on people's lives. By taking their picture, I am recording a moment in time that can be remembered forever. When I shoot newborn's I love being able to capture their innocence. They grow so fast and when I can freeze that sleepy moment, parents will be able to look at look at those photos and always be reminded of that innocence.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. I wish I could explain to customers what a difficult job photography can be. Everyone assumes you just snap some pictures and make lots of money. The truth is, there is so much more to it than that. Some photographers make three to four thousand for a wedding (and some even more). It would seem like easy money but the work doesn't end once the wedding is over. There are thousands of photos to go through, and hundreds to pick out and edit. Then it is making dvd's, print orders, and much more. Plus, most of that money goes towards expensive equipment, ad fees and other stuff. When it comes down to it, if you counted the hours spent on the business and on customer's jobs, it doesn't come out to much per hour. But it is all worth it.
