Guitar Austin

We're a local, home-based studio offering private and small group lessons in acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and electric bass for Cedar Park, Leander and Austin, TX.

Guitar Austin is a family business founded by Michael and Amy Boyd in 2009. Michael Boyd, our primary instructor, has been teaching guitar and bass since 2000, while Amy takes care of scheduling and payments.

Business has been good here in Cedar Park, to the point where we've brought in two additional teachers and are expanding to small group lessons as well!

Schedules fill up fast, so check our site for available times, and if you don't see the ones that work for you, we do have a waiting list.

Please note—though our phone is listed here on Thumbtack, we highly prefer contact by email (email almost always gets a faster response). You'll find our contact email at our website in several places.

Thank you!

Question and answer

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Originally from New York, Michael Boyd now lives just outside Austin in Cedar Park, and has been teaching guitar and bass since 2000. Rather than follow a set lesson plan, Michael works with students to learn songs they enjoy, while also teaching the theory behind them. He’s also an excellent resource for students preparing for school with tutoring in music theory, sightreading and audition preparation.

Michael’s performed with several groups in the Northeast and Texas, focusing largely on rock, jazz, and improvisation. Students will find him a gifted teacher, highly trained enough to improve even the best guitarists and bassists, and patient enough to work with the most novice. (Kids love him too!)

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. There's so much to love! As a husband and wife running a home-based business, we're able to work out of our home, consistently meet new people, keep a flexible schedule, see each other throughout the day, and most of all, we get to make a living through sharing music. You don't get better than that.
