I recently attended a Sunday course and was very pleased with the class. I was worried that such a long day would drag by but the class was very fun and informative. I recommend this course to anyone wanting to learn about firearm safety and protecting their rights as a law abiding citizen. Thank you Capitol area practical shooting!!

My experience at renewing my concealed handgun license thru Capitol Area Practical Shooting was very positive! All I had to do was attend the class room instruction and firing range session with a willing attitude to learn and refresh on the topics of lawful and safe handling of a handgun. CAPS made the process as effortless as it can possibly be done. I highly recommend anyone wishing to gain or renew a CHL to do so through Capitol Area Practical Shooting. R. Habecker

Question and answer

  • Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

    A. We teach the concealed handgun license course for new and renewal applicants. We also offer firearms training for beginning and intermediate shooters.

  • Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

    A. Review the entire website: what information did you gain that you didn't know before you visited the website. That is a good indication that the class room information will also have some great tidbits

Call or send an email: Ask questions. You can get a feel for the instructor based on their response to simple questions.

  • Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

    A. When I took my first CHL class the Instructored did alot of talking about himself and his personal views. I left that class not retaining much information or useful resources.

When people look for a CHL class they tend to look at the cost first (usually the cheapest), then their calendar to pick an open weekend. Instead people should look at the Instructor or Company reviews, and what their services really include: do you have buy a range membership? Do I you have to get your own fingerprints? How much are you really being charged for a gun rental?

  • Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

    A. To apply for a concealed handgun license you need to take a 10-15 hour course for new applicants, or 4-6 hour class for renewals. You must meet all the requirements to apply, visit our website for all the "need to know info" www.caps-chl.com

  • Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

    A. What makes us different is the personal attention before and after you come through our class. We establish relationships with our clients that goes beyond the 10 course. The process is not about us, it is about you and making sure that you have considered all that comes with carrying a firearm for personal protection so you have the tools to be successful.

  • Q. What do you like most about your job?

    A. I love people, I love seeing the light bulb turn on during a discussion of Texas Law, I love that I empower people, I love that I impact famiies by increasing their knowledge of firearm safety. I love that my classes are fun and light hearted even though we are talking about a very serious subject.

  • Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

    A. Do I have to own a gun to take a class?

NO! Many people come to our classes that do not yet own a gun. We have range guns available for $20 includes ammo.

We have developed a gun and caliber selection class that helps people figure out which is the right gun for them. Many who went out and bought their first gun before they took our class wished they had waited because they got the wrong gun or spent too much money.

  • Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

    A. There are so many fantastic moments. It is always great to see someone pick up a gun for the very first time and hit the center of the target. The smiles are huge! Of course that is when the work begins: taking the luck away and making them into a proficient shooter.

  • Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

    A. We don't want to ever have to use our firearms in self defense. We love to shoot in competition or target practice, but take every action possible to avoid having to use our gun by using our situational awareness and making choices about where we go not to be put in potential danger.

  • Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

    A. When I took my first CHL class the Instructor did alot of talking about himself and his personal views. I left that class not retaining much information or useful resources.

My husband has a background in firearms instruction during his military service and is very involved in competitive shooting. His talent soon became my passion.

Other instructors have asked to work under Capitol Area Practical Shooting becuase of my level of administrative service to our clients as well as to my instructors.

  • Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

    A. We participate in competitive shooting and take classes from industry professionals as often as we can.

  • Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

    A. Renewals no longer need to provide fingerprints and photos.

  • Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

    A. New License $100
    Military Rate $80
    Renewal License $70
Rental Gun & 50 rounds of ammo $25
