FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a member of the Dallas Society of Visual Communications and regularly attend their monthly meetings to hear presentations by some of the top artists in the design field, as well as some who are involved in slightly different fields (photography, architecture, etc.). I also subscribe to HOW magazine, which is a prominent design publication featuring articles on how to manage the business-side of things, interviews with great designers, and showcases of award-winning work. Additionally, I'm always "in the middle" of a web-coding book, trying to expand my knowledge and capabilities in that area.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I've loved art for as long as I can remember, and spent much of my free time as a kid in creative pursuits of one sort or the other. When I was in high school, trying to figure out what major to choose for college, I knew I wanted to do something in the art field. And when I found out about graphic design, it didn't take long to figure out that it was the path for me. The thing that appealed to me the most was that the playing field is wide, wide open. In other words, literally any type of art can be used in design as long as it fits the concept. I'm not limited to drawing and painting, or ceramics, or sculpture, or computer-generated art, or any other medium. The freedom that brings and the potential for always learning something new is exhilarating. And since getting into the "real world," I've found that I enjoy researching new clients and handling the business side of things as well. I can't imagine myself in any other career.
