Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Weddings are my most common. I also do many different types of events. Everything from birthday parties to anniversaries to family reunions. I love them all!

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Find a certified planner. Not all wedding planners are certified. A certified wedding planner had done classes on planning weddings and events and should be able to make any event happen.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. As of right now, there is no industry standard for wedding and event planning, so just about anyone can start up a business. I have a certification from an accredited institution. I have dedicated hundreds of hours learning how to plan a wonderful event for my clients. I have hands on experience and love making people happy by creating memorable events for them.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I love making people happy. When all the pieces come together and the event is just as they first imagined is the greatest feeling, for the client and myself. I have loved weddings since I planned my own in 2006.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. I was proposed to at a wedding once. To top it off he only spoke Spanish and had to have his cousin ask me! I was flattered, but had to decline. :)

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. I wish they knew that we aren't just women who like weddings. We take our jobs seriously. We want our clients to be happy and we want to see our events be as wonderful as they can be. Our job is just as important as the photographer or DJ. We make everything go smoothly.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. After I spent 11 months planning my own wedding, I fell in love with the whole industry. I love making people happy and watching their dream day come to life.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. I recently did a wedding for a Mexican couple who flew in all their family from Mexico. It was a big wonderful party! It was a wonderful time for everyone, and everything turned out perfect!

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. Absolutely! There are plenty of classes offered to take to further my knowledge. The ABC (Association of Bridal Consultants) offers training courses and seminars throughout the year.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. Find a good accredited certification program. It will help a ton to have that behind your name since not all wedding planners are certified. Also belong to an association. This will also give you more credibility.
