The Academy of Combat Application Techniques is a service disabled combat veteran-owned small business that specializes in self protection, military knife and hand-to-hand combat and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) training.

Our instructor is a highly professional and experienced trainer who not only appreciates the values and discipline of the martial arts, but also the sound scientific techniques, and principles for self protection behind the ancient arts.

With that said, we are not like so many other "dojos" that teach "flash and trash or flippy showy" techniques. We take pride in preparing our trainees for the reality of combat, whether it be on the street, in the cage, or in real-life combat.

We provide our students with a positive training atmosphere that utilizes the most modern and up-to-date training strategy while maintaining an old school feel. With that said, training in the "warrior arts" is a lifelong journey that we at the Academy of Combat Application Techniques facilitate in every way possible. As a student with us, you are part of our family.

Because times are tough, we understand the idea of having to become tougher, and as the world gets harder and becomes a more threatening place to be, we want to help you meet the challenges that you or your loved ones face.

We are nationally accredited, and have many programs for you or your family to choose from.

We offer:

• Self protection training
• Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) program
• Women's Awareness and Self Protection (W.A.S.P.)
• Military knife and close quarters combat -- The Combat Application Techniques Program (16+ at instructor's discretion)
• Private lessons for adults (limited openings)

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. We have developed a very detailed website in order to assist potential clients in making the very important decision of hiring a martial arts / self -protection trainer. Our website has a Home Page that gives a general overview of the program we provide and an individual page for each program we offer. Each page also provides contact information to include E-Mail, Voicemail and driving directions.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Unfortunately when it comes to self-protection and martial arts training; there are a lot of frauds. Especially since the "Mixed Martial Arts" boom kicked in. It seems now that everyone who owns a school is an "MMA Master" / specialist or a master of Brazilian Jujitsu. Many also try to capitalize on the sport of MMA by claiming it's "The new way" in Self Protection.
The truth is there are few out there that have actually competed in the sport; and many don't even realize that MMA and Brazilian Jujitsu is far from the best solution to self protection. Afterall, the last place that anyone wants to be is on the ground trying to submit someone when they are surrounded by multiple attackers.

Perhaps women fall prey the most by biting the hook when it comes to these so called, "Women's Self- Defense classes". There are a lot of egomaniacs out there that honestly believe highflying martial arts kicks and mystical techniques are going to save a lone woman in a potential robbery/ murder/ rape scenario against multiple attackers. Many of these instructors are frauds.

Ever since the 9/11 attacks and the beginning of the "War on Terror"; many martial arts schools have claimed to provide "Military Combatives/ Police Defensive Tactics" training to the public. Another sad fact is that a very few of these places have any knowledge and experience at all when it comes to these subjects. It's best to check credentials.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. First and foremost the potential client should ask; "What can you do for me?" It is important for the potential client to know exactly what to expect from the service provider upfront and at the very begining of the relationship.

Second, the client needs to ask, "Just how do you provise the services that you offer?" Ask for details. A good professional Martial Arts instructor is generally very proud of their training methodology and will not be afraid to share details of how they do business. Afterall, its more marketing for them and an opportunity to make a sale.

Lastly, they should ask, "What are your credentials?" "Can I see them?". If anyone is legitimate they won't have a hard time furnishing them upfront.
