Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Family and Wedding portraits are my bread and butter. I love kids, have 2 of my own and do a lot of children's portraits. I frequently get told, "I dont know how you do this, I could never work this well with children!" I also do alot of wedding and engagement shoots. I love it when a couple really plays well infront of the camera. My other largest group of shots is Fashion. I regularly work with several models to put out the latest and greatest in fashion, makeup, and hair. My portfolio builder package flies off the perverbial shelves!

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. I would say get quotes from everyone, don't just take the first person you find. A photographer can make or break your memory making! Also expensive does not mean good, look at credentials and ask for samples. Ask what they shoot with, whether you know about cameras or not, and see how knowledgeable they are.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. I typically don't immediately respond with a quote because I tailor the packages to the needs of the subject and the purchaser. Have a general idea about what you want the pictures for, and why we are shooting these specific portraits. It also helps to have a general idea of the scene or location you want to shoot.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Imagine That Pix is my passion! I pour every ounce of professionalism and creativity into my work, because I love the reactions I get when I take someone who is completely insecure in their appearance and create a look through my photography that makes them radiate. The look on their face when I show them the finished product makes my day! But then to see their reaction when I tell them it's not photoshopped, I didn't "fix" them, thats when I know I'm in the right line of work.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. But what other fees are there? I laugh at this because people don't typically believe I am as cheap as I am. Great portraits dont need to cost you thousands and thousands of dollars! That and I get asked how much I charge for retouches and editing. I do not charge for fixing things I was unable to get right on the camera. To me, that's a ridiculous charge for some photographers.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I took a course in college as an elective. I liked it so much that my parents bought me my first camera. At that point I was hooked. After taking my second class, I shot some portraits for a friend, and they told me I should be doing this as a side gig. I decided it didn't sound too bad, and enrolled in a certification course with New York Institute of Photography (my current University did not offer photography as a major) and a publication and award recipient later, here I am!

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I routinely consult with others in the field, subscribe to the top trending magazines, and take courses as my schedule permits. As of this point, I learn more in the field with every shoot than in a book, so I focus on what my upcoming shoot is and read up on that.
