My experience with Kristin Van Hauen, the day-of wedding coordinator, was not a positive experience. If you consider hiring her for your wedding, here are three key pieces of advice: 1) REQUEST THAT SHE ARRIVE IN APPROPRIATE ATTIRE. Make sure you clearly communicate your expectations for how you want her to dress for your event. Kristin Van Hauen arrived in casual clothes for my wedding. In my opinion, this was very disappointing and unprofessional for the setting, which was more formal. 2) SPECIFY THE SERVICES YOU EXPECT TO RECEIVE. When Kristin Van Hauen provides you with a contract, consider amending it to clearly define and specify the services you expect to receive on your wedding day. Never make any assumptions. For my wedding, I felt like there were many tasks Kristin Van Hauen did not do well, or did not do at all, according to the “services” outlined in her contract. This includes, but is not limited to: 1) fixing the bride’s dress beforehand, 2) ensuring the florist delivers ALL floral arrangements, 3) directing guests from one location to another, and 4) gathering family and the bridal party for photos after the ceremony. 3) PAY HALF UPFRONT, AND HALF AFTER THE WEDDING. Try to negotiate some of the payment upfront, and the rest at the conclusion of the day: this might hold Kristin Van Hauen more accountable for providing quality service. Currently, Kristin Van Hauen requests full payment 30 days before the wedding, which may leave you with little leverage if you are not 100% satisfied with her services. For example: when I mentioned some of my concerns to Kristin Van Hauen after the wedding, I felt that she was very dismissive and unconcerned with my dissatisfaction as a client. This was extremely disappointing, especially since she agreed to “prevent and fix any problems that may arise during the event,” a statement included in her final month of coordination package. Overall, although she is a very nice lady, I would not recommend hiring Kristin Van Hauen for your wedding.
