I am a professional home inspector in the greater Houston area. I have a passion for creating energy and water efficiency in homes, so I include this knowledge in my reports.

I examine all the aspects of your home, from the structure, electrical system, plumbing system, the air conditioning system, and built-in appliances, to other items, such as the lawn sprinkler, outdoor kitchens, outbuildings, and landscaping.

My clients see me as a resource, who they can ask questions about their home, while obtaining answers they can understand. This is why I include a re-inspection as part of my service.

I also encourage them to contact me. A home inspection can only be good if you comprehend what is in the report. I also speak German and Spanish, so I have helped clients with using those languages.

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. First, talk to them. Do you feel comfortable with that home inspector, because you need him to explain his report. Ask them questions about their service, since you may find that one home inspector may charge you the same price, but offer you less service. A typical home inspection lasts three to four hours, so if they can do it in one hour, they are not really looking.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Can anyone do a home inspection? I would say es with stipulations. You can examine your own home, but what a home inspector brings to the table is an understanding of what is happening. The big secret though is you do not need a lot of fancy equipment to do this job. Some home inspector charge more by pulling out equipment that costs thousands of dollars, but this might not be telling the client anything extra than a home inspector who shows up with a fairly simple toolkit.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. What does your service include? Not all home inspections are the same. A basic home inspection will be, but each inspector will add or subtract items that they will examine.
How will I get the report, and when do I get a copy? Ideally, the home inspector should provide you with a copy of the report quickly, but this is not always the case. A common method now is to send the report via email in a pdf format. You should have it within three days, but within one day is better.
