Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Commercials, product or service marketing videos for websites. Music videos.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Don't just go with the best price or the fastest results. Choose experience! Also make sure that if a producer shows you samples that he can really take credit for the visuals, as many may have worked in some assisting role and really cannot take credit for the entire look of the production.

Also verify the production company carries a current insurance policy that will cover any potential damage that may be caused, and protect you from liability and workmen's comp claims.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. There are different formats of high definition cameras available, and different styles of shooting, that will ultimately amount to the time and cost involved in production. Often time that most small businesses cannot afford to interrupt their developing operations Colleges today are cranking out thousands of talented but typically inexperienced film students, most who have a passion for just wanting to tell a story, usually their's not yours. While cinematic techniques can add much allure to videos, the style of shooting is time consuming and expensive in both the amount of production time and editing involved. We find most of our customers want to tell their story with a a simple attractive high definition look for an affordable cost, as hassle free as possible.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Have plenty of questions ready. The more I know about your business, and your expectations the better I can help design a production that can meet and exceed your expectations.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I have over 28 years of experience as a commercial and television director/producer, with vast experience in television broadcast management, operations, development and consulting. HD Texas offers turn-key production services creating concepts, writing scripts to filming, editing and distribution.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Focused on exceeding customer expectations!

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Do we provide turn key production services? The answer is yes and we generally go beyond that even. We strive to make the process as hassle-free for our clients, so they can focus on continuing operating their business.

As most of our clients are seeking for us to produce commercials, we help them refine a marketing strategy suitable for their business, market trends, and budget. Of course we write scripts, shoot and edit, and upload the clients videos to the web as well as provide their production on a DVD. And we always follow up with our clients as we believe ongoing relationships are important.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. Every project is my favorite, because I meet so many interested business owners from such a wide array of businesses, each with a passion and a vision to be the best in the products and services they provide. This makes me want to do the best that can possibly be done to help them achieve this.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. My customers often tell me that I am extremely patient and make the production process relaxing.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. It was a calling, a passion, where focus, opportunity and providence opened doors.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. In addition we just completed producing a music video in digital cinematic format for hit Texas country singer/songwriter Neil Austin Imber. This video was produced to feel more like a movie, than most traditional music videos are today, which presented its own challenges in creating a work that combined coordination of locations with city officials, property owners, actors, as well as moving cast and crew and equipment around, executing all of these elements on time and on budget! The success of this video was totally attributed to HD Texas's years of solid production experience, screenplay writing, location scouting, talent casting, and the quality of the performance of the cast and crew.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I consistently stay in touch with colleagues as well as equipment manufacturers to learn and discuss the emerging trends in the industry. I constantly read and view work of colleagues and competitors, and frequently attend informative seminars and shows.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. HD cinematic production is where the industry had clearly landed, led by the HDSLR revolution which provides cinema quality video . While the HDSLR technology has its limits it is still developing and improving, the industry has and is creating hybrid systems, a cross between traditional HD video cameras and cinematic elements to create truly stunning work! For that reason we chose the Sony NEX FS100 which provides stunning cinematic quality HD imagery, with improved audio that no HDSLR can provide!

Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.

A. Recently I took on a turn key production project for Neil Austin Imber, transforming his top 30 country song, "Its Been A Few Years", into a concept music video.

I wrote the screenplay to match the idea, not mirroring the actual true life events that the songwriter wrote as the initiative for the songs original creation. Then I presented the idea to Neil's artist management company for approval, and got a two thumbs up. Then I spent extensive time to hire a line producer to create the budget, received approval from the client, and then went to locate the ideal production locations, secured the locations, insurances, and then I began casting Neil's co-star and extras.

The line producer also served as my DP. He hired out a local crew and they were magnificent, and they will be coming back to work with us on future projects as per was the desire of this client, seeing how well we all worked harmoniously together and executed the work professionally.

The 2 and a half days of production went flawlessly, and somewhat effortlessly, and the cast and crew fell in love with the ideal locations that I had selected and the script. We won overwhelming assistance and support from everyone around in the city of La Grange where we did the primary filming. All in all the results where outstanding and the final product outstanding.

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. Each of our productions not only bring our nearly three decades of experience, but are priced attractively for every client, and we strive to make it affordable for every client possible.

We have a published market day rate of $650, or $400 for half a day.

We do offer our clients contract pricing, quantity discounts, and payment plans.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. Have a passion, a strategy and stay focused. Find a mentor and stick with him or her. Do not get distracted. Put all your egos aside and focus on the client.

Q. What is your greatest strength?

A. Having decades of experience to produce the project on-time, on budget, with a great package of equipment, and always the focus on customer satisfaction!
