I have been fortunate to work with Malanie over the last few years, many times. Her voice is so professional and she knows how to set the tone of an educational voice or sales voice.....whatever we need!
Thank you for your many hours spent and for a job well done!

I have been hiring Melanie for voice-overs for years and years. Her read is always dead on, seldom requiring a second take. An absolute pleasure to work with. I would without hesitation recommend Melanie for your next project!

Melanie has been an absolute pleasure to work with. For years now she has never failed to meet our demand for quick turn around on professional sounding voice system prompts. We are delighted to have her as the "voice" of our company.

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. It's always helpful for the customer to have a good idea of what they want as to the style and tone of the voice over. Their script needs to be written and polished so that it reflects what they are truly trying to achieve. If timing is an issue, they need to realize that when they read a script silently or even skimming along out loud, they are going to take much less time than a professional who is bringing the words to life. And if their project is a video, it's always preferable to get the voice track recorded before setting the video in stone. Trying to record a video to time when there are too many words for the picture or if the video has been created and saved using a non-professional scratch track, can make a very difficult and time consuming task for the voice over talent.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. It's not as easy as it sounds! To the customer who is new to hiring voice talent, it might seem like a voice over talent is "just talking" and a simple project will "only take you a few minutes" to produce. There are at least a couple of things that a customer should know. One, sounding like the words are your own and flowing easily takes a lot of practice! Believe it or not, there is a lot of acting involved as well as learning to modulate your voice and "work" the microphone in order to sound professional, caring, knowledgeable about the product, etc. Two, there is a great deal of training, time, and expense in maintaining the best possible recording facility including hardware, software, and the physical condition and preparation of the audio booth and studio.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Every voice talent has a unique voice. That plus years of experience, training, and professionalism equals a quality product and happy clients! I make sure that I treat my clients as I would want to be treated by any professional that I hire. I maintain a high degree of communication and go the extra mile to make sure my clients are not only satisfied with the audio files I deliver, but delighted with the results. I can help guide them if they are new to hiring voice talent by offering alternatives to style, format, and even script adjustments. My clients benefit from my many years of professional experience.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. My job is new and different every day! Often I have projects waiting for me as the day begins, but I never know what new and exciting projects may land in my inbox or what the next phone call will bring. I also enjoy meeting and working with so many wonderful clients often again and again through the years. I have worked with many of my clients for over 20 years, and it's such a wonderful experience to be a part of their lives. Working from my own home studio as well as other professional studios in Houston and around the state offers me the luxury of comfort as well as variety. My days are never boring!

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. One of the first things customers ask me is, "What is your rate?". That usually requires a bit of discovery and discussion because my work is not based on an hourly rate. Rates are based on the type of project, the length of the script, where it will be heard and how long it will be used. One size does not fit all. A simple single voice mail greeting will have a different rate than a radio or television commercial or a business narration for a web site or a documentary. I have to factor in how long it will take me to record the project, how long it will take to edit the audio, and finally, as I mentioned before, where the audio will ultimately be heard.
