Inside CuraYoga
Our mantra:
I am that which is worthy, and absolutely open to receive, in every way, every single day, with every breath I take.
Synthesize. Integrate. Bloom. Hamsa!
CuraYoga is an open and supportive community in Houston committed to the study and celebration of yoga. We’d love to assist you in discovering the best practice of yoga for your body, mind and spirit.
Yoga is a traditional mental and physical discipline that started in India. The yoga practice includes meditation (dhyana), and putting the body in a series of postures (asana), while managing the breath to best oxygenate the body, and manipulate energy (pranayama). The postures need flexibility, balance, grace, strength and breath control. There are a lot of reasons people start a yoga practice such as to ease back pain, enhance overall health, relief from stress, or intensify their spiritual practice.
There are many styles of yoga. CuraYoga has several types of classes that range from classic to more modern plans. Slow, fast, heat-building, strength-building, beginner, deep stretching, and advanced practitioner, we’ve got something for everybody.
Among our main (and favorite!) kinds of yoga is Vinyasa Flow. Vinyasa Flow is distinguished by a series of postures connected together. The student flows from one posture to another, without pause in between, coordinating every breath, exhale and inhale with the movement.
Vinyasa Flow yoga is the union of flowing asana with conscious breath. Through concentration and fluid movement, the yogi experiences the unification mind and body, heart and mind, spirit and heart.
Sound is central to most CuraYoga classes. This includes sounds of the breath, voice and also music. Through music, rhythms and vibrations guide the student’s flow of fluid movement and promote body consciousness which is an often long-awaited shift.
People use music to mark the most joyous occasions of family, and complement life's most notable events. Music always stirs the emotion sometimes mild ambivalence, other times intense feelings. It is our belief that your highest potential may be developed via these experiences. By allowing the vibrations to assist in releasing trapped energy that is stored in the body, usually carried as old belief patterns, you can create some space for the strong transformation found in a consistent Yoga practice.
“Everything is music.”
