BELONGS IN THE HALL OF FAME FOR WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER: I knew this was likely to be the worst contractor I've ever worked with when she decided to apply the sealant (prior to my approval) in order to prevent me from requesting an additional coat to go a shade darker. I was actually told "it's dark enough". Never mind that we paid several thousand dollars, the color of the stain apparently wasn't my decision.

When we found a woman's brooks running shoe print in the freshly dried and stained quartz overlay, it was promptly blamed on a male contractor. After several phone calls and much attitude, the shoe print was resurfaced, only now the various shades of stain do not match. We were advised that it could take up to a year for the shades to match, but wait -- is there not a lifetime guarantee that the color won't fade? How in the world would it match in a year?

Now we have noticed cracking & flaking of the quartz overlay, which we reported as a problem. Her response - we must have foundation issues. Our foundation isn't cracking, it's the 1/8 overlay only. After we made an additional follow up call and sent an email, her response was she would come check it out "when she was in the area", but "we would pay whatever it cost to repair the issues." WOW! We've had other contractors who volunteered to come out FOR FREE to see if they could help and the response has been the same, her product didn't properly adhere and she should warranty the work. The term "expressed limited warranty" has already surfaced - something tells me she will never show up again.

Save your time, patience and money and avoid this lady entirely.

The Concrete Artist is a fantastic and creative alternative to painting or standard concrete overlay. The creativity and work quality are awesome but even more is the lifetime warranty. Do it once and enjoy without maintenance. I highly recommend you explore this option. You will be thrilled with the people and the product.

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Our most common job would be around pools and patios. People are tired of boring concrete or how hot their aggregate is in the summertime. This product litterly tranform your area into a work of art and a place you really enjoy spending. How many other companies do that for you?

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. My product will not be the least expensive but I offer you something that very few people will provide. Once we apply our product to your concrete or aggregate, it's vurtually maintenance free and you don't have to worry about it fading or needing to reseal. Everyone's heard the saying "You get what you pay for" It's very true!

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. There are many people telling you that with stamped or stained, you won't have to recolor or reseal. Unfortunately, this isn't true. With the Texas weather, we get extreme cold and hot which makes the concrete expand and contract. This process causes colors and sealers to lose their brightness or even peel right off since they are topical, you will have to recolor and reseal if you apply a stain or stamp to concrete.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Have an idea what kind of budget you want to use for this process. This is an investment but will add value to your home no matter where it's applied. Once you know you are interested, give us a call and we'll be more than happy to come out and do the measurements. We provide free estimates anytime.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Our product is unlike anything else in the industry. We offer a lifetime warranty you will never have to recolor or reseal it and it's a transferable warranty. Our sealer and colors actually penatrate into the product where most other products just sit on the surface.
We are able create unique looks and colors that won't be seen anywhere else and look natural.
99% pure quartz creates the strongest product in the industry. Safe around salt water pools and driveways.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I enjoy being able to create a one of a kind look for my clients and the ability to make people happy with the end product is exciting!

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. How long does the product last?
We offer a lifetime warranty you will never have to recolor or reseal it.
What is your product made of?
99% pure quartz stone, second strongest stone next to diamonds.
Is this stamped or stained?
No, our product is an overlay that does over your existing concrete or aggregate and is 30% cooler than concrete.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. I recently had a customer that had us redo his three bedrooms and hallway. It was so much fun since he didn't care how much texture or color we added to the floors. He saw that this process is truly a work of art and allowed us to really play with the floors and create a really amazing look!

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. There are a lot of companies selling a lot of different forms of overlay, stamped and stain concrete. Be prepared to ask a lot of questions and be sure to ask about their warranty. If they can't give you a straight answer, then you know something isn't right.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. My mother has been providing the same service out in Palm Springs, California for over the last six years and love what she's been able to create. I'm an artist by heart and this product is a great outlet for me in my artwork.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. I had a customer that wanted a certain pattern from a magazine and wanted me to repeat the pattern. When I first saw the pattern, I wasn't sure if I could. I went ahead and created a grid and started cutting different sections out with his guidance and was able to come up with a pattern that was very close if not better since it fit his back patio perfectly.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I attend art classes on shapes and colors and working towards more education in concrete repair and restoration.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. With buildings becoming older and the effects our weather have on buildings, you will start to see a need for more brick, mortar and concrete repair due to water damage and just old age. With my product, once the repair has been fixed, we can go over the repair and transform the look of the concrete.
