Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. We focus on brake jobs. Most jobs require new brake pads, some require brake rotors and some even more involved work. Brakes are simple and effective systems that obviously play a very important role in vehicle operation. Because servicing brakes on today's cars and trucks is easy relative to other automotive repairs it is a ideal service to have completed by a mobile mechanic.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. There are a lot of moonlighters in the mobile mechanic field. Most are competent technicians offering a wide array of services, some of which should really be left to a full service repair shop. There is a good chance they will do the job right the first time and for a great price. But in the event that there is an after service problem you may find that dealing with a corporation makes it easier to have your warranty honored promptly. Look for a mobile service company who focuses on a more specific service, employ only expert mechanics, operates out of a physical location, properly charges sales tax, disposes of chemicals and old parts properly, accepts a variety of ways to pay and offers a warranty that is enforceable.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Our mission is to introduce the concept of mobile brake service. The reason it takes three hours to get a brake job at a brake shop is because it takes two hours to order and get delivery of the parts. We bring parts with us, only use what is needed and complete most brake repairs in about an hour. Why would you do it any other way?

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. To expedite the process of Stop on a Dime Mobile Brake Service providing an accurate brake service estimate we need the following information about the car or truck needing brake repair: Year, Make, Model, Engine Size, noting if four wheel drive if applicable and a brief indication of the problem (squealing, grinding, vibration etc...). It is also helpful to provide the VIN number and mileage if readily available.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Stop on a Dime, LLC is a Texas corporation. We are NOT moonlighters. We focus on mobile brake service to owners of all foreign & domestic light cars & trucks. We provide our brake repair service on location at our customer's home or work place. Instead of spending three hours at a brake shop let us bring the parts and do the job, usually in about an hour.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. We love surprising our brake repair customer with how easy it is to get expert brake service without the hassle of going to a brake shop. Who do we serve? Busy professionals, soccer moms, fleet operators, students, businesses, municipalities and of course our friends!

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. How does your mobile brake service work? All we need to get started is the year, make and model of your car and a brief description of the brake problem you are experiencing. We send you an estimate, quoting only quality brake pads, brake rotors and brake shoes. Our expert mechanics complete the brake job at your home or work place without the hassle of going to a brake shop.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. A car enthusiast was quoted by a new car dealer over $2500 for a brake job on his beloved Porsche. He called Stop on a Dime Mobile Brake Service. We quoted the same job for less than $1000 and a high performance brake system upgrade for $1800 that reduced the curb weight of his car and vastly improved the stopping ability of his car. We also wanted to see what we could do for $2500. For that amount he would have full on race track ready brakes. He purchased the $1800 package and couldn't be happier!

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. A couple of things. First a few bad apples don't spoil the whole bunch. There are a few national brake repair chains that advertise ridiculous prices. I don't want to accuse them of "bait & switch" pricing schemes, but if I took my car to them and realized what kind of brake parts they were going to put on my car I would definitely be switching! The second thing is that brake jobs are easy. Having a Stop on a Dime Mobile Brake Service technician come to your house or work place is ultra convenient and fast. Our expert mechanics will only do the work you require. There will be no fluid or debris left behind, just fresh brakes.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. We love cars. We also have had good experiences with mobile mechanics. We saw an opportunity to be among the first organized companies to offer mobile brake service. We have national aspirations with this business.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. A busy mom with three small children heard about our service through her dad, a local landscape service owner who recommended our service. We arrived at her home to service her Honda mini van. With all three little ones and a barking dog hanging close by she frantically handed us the keys and quickly closed the cracked door. In less than an hour her brakes were fixed and we were on our way. She called her credit card payment in during nap time. She was thrilled and without being asked promoted our service in a local "mom's club" newsletter. She joined our Facebook page and has done two more brake jobs with us already! She jokes about not just having to wait three hours at a brake shop but waiting three hours with three small kids there to get a brake job!

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. Although we focus on brake service we are expert automotive mechanics. We hire only certified mechanics who know how to complete the job right, the first time. Our mechanics are well trained brake repair experts before they join us. They must also be comfortable interacting with our customers. We work hard to give them the training to address any customer concern that may arise on location.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. Brake systems have not changed much over the decades. Drum brakes have largely given way to simpler and more effective disk brakes. The biggest technical challenge facing brake service professionals like those at Stop on a Dime Mobile Brake Service will be keeping up with the emerging "regenerative brake" technology that shows great promise in hybrid electric powered automobiles. These systems capture the significant amount of "energy" that is otherwise wasted when brakes are bringing a car to a stop. Even more important than the technical issues facing our expert mechanics is helping them become expert customer service people. Our mechanics are literally the face of the business and are ultimately responsible for the quality of service and is a major contributor to the overall customer satisfaction.

Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.

A. We are continually developing our service protocols to best suit each class of customer. We are doing pretty well with our retail, commercial and fleet customers. Our current project is developing a service delivery protocol that works for municipalities. Cities operate a variety of hard working vehicles including police cruisers, light and heavy trucks.

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. Our estimates are simple and straightforward. Sometimes we offer upgrade options or split the quotation into front and rear brakes to make it easy for the prospective customer to compare our prices to the competition.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. I suggest they just leave the mobile brake service to Stop on a Dime, LLC.

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. Why should someone ever spend another minute at a brake shop?

Good question!
