Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Look for a professional designer licensed by the state and/or a member of professional organizations such as ASID. They have had extensive education and passed strenuous examinations regarding health, safety and welfare issues. Check out websites with photos of completed projects to see the range of work and if you like what you see.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. I would wish to know how to get that "designer look"; you just know looking at it that a professional has been involved. One of the most important factors in achieving a completed, pulled together and beautiful interior is accessorizing. If architecture and furniture are the "bones", the artful use of accessories complete the design and add the wow factor.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. One of the most important elements in starting a project is determining the budget. You have to know the parameters that you are working within. A great starting point is working with a designer to develop a Master Plan, which is a furniture plan, a list of the accessories, the draperies, rugs, etc. This will give you a realistic idea of what your project will cost and help you decide if your budget allows you to do the entire project in one phase or if you are more comfortable breaking it down in several phases and doing it a little at a time.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I love creating an interior that is uniquely suited to my clients' taste and personality. I strive to make the design experience truly enjoyable by being sensitive to their needs while guiding them to achieving a well designed space that is uniquely beautiful, functional and personalized. I take ordinary settings and make them extraordinary!

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. Absolutely! The state of Texas requires continuing education every year, each course qualified in health, safety and welfare or sustainabilty or accessible design. Additionally, I enjoy taking courses in other categories such as the latest in product knowledge, lighting techniques or color theory.
