Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I am an actual Web site developer, located here in the D/FW Metroplex; I am not a student, amateur or a front for an offshore firm. While I have standardized templates and processes like any other developer or agency, I believe it's just as important to maintain a line of communications with the client, to really get as detailed an idea as possible of what the client wants. I will evaluate the client's needs, and if possible, provide alternate solutions for optimal (or less costly) results. I like helping people to get their businesses or personal profiles/brands on the Internet, and showing them how to make the most out of that presence.

Jim was our chief HTML developer for our enterprise systems. He and I worked primarily on the development of the company's marketing web sites and its e-commerce site. Jim did a good job of coming up with good HTML designs that implemented the user experience requirements demanded by the business. I found Jim to be creative and use his skill and knowledge of good user interface design to come up with page designs that were pleasant and efficient for our customers. Jim was also quick to find plug-and-play solutions for lots of page elements needed (e.g., video and scrolling banners) and adapt them for our needes. Jim is a person of high integrity. He delivered what he was asked to create very professionally and on the agreed schedule. I also found Jim to be a very good team player with excellent communication and collaboration skills. Jim is a very senior web developer who would benefit any organization in need of good web site design and development.

Jim was very inattentive. Several times my communications were either lost (by his own admission) or not responded to at all. He wanted to meet during hours that were not convenient to me (7 or 8 at night), almost as if my project was a side thing and not his main business hours focus. We finally scheduled a meeting after I agreed to a modified contract and I paid the down payment. Jim never confirmed the meeting, never showed up at the meeting time, and never provided any instructions for the web meeting login. I've wasted a lot of time trying to get this website redesign completed. I asked for my deposit back and expect it to be refunded promptly. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

James took what little information I gave and was able to not only program the script I needed, but he did if at a fair price and incredibly quickly. I will definitely be hiring him again.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Of course, it helps to have samples of other peoples' work to show what you'd like to accomplish for yourself. Even more important though, is an idea of the underlying business process you wish to improve.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

I wish that customers would think more thoroughly about what exactly it is that they want, and even more importantly, what they hope to accomplish on the Internet.
