Introduction: My specialization is preparing individuals for rigorous tests like the SAT I and II – German, AP German (Advanced Placement Test), the language test for residency in Germany, and the challenging German language admission test at German universities. I have successfully taught German at all grades, in a traditional classroom, individually or online. I love teaching and consider myself patient, and I can tailor my lesson plans to the student's needs. Furthermore, I spent two decades of my professional life teaching English in Germany, authoring and co-authoring textbooks for the English classroom. Since living in the United States, I have enjoyed teaching German from beginner to college level. My teaching experience ranges from elementary school children to adults who need German language skills for their careers or enrichment. During my stay in the US, I had the opportunity to develop curricula for teaching German in public and private schools. I wrote articles in the field of German literature. Undoubtedly, my academic background (MA in German and English and a Ph.D. in education) helps me provide solid work for my students. Back in Germany and the States, I had ample opportunities to teach individual students German or English as a Foreign Language. The age range was as young as 8, while my oldest student was 78. Mr. Soldan is great. I am thoroughly enjoying my German lessons. I use to speak German very frequently, but have lost a lot of it. Mr. Soldan makes learning and conversing in German a fun and great experience.

If you are interested in learning German, Wolfgang provides high quality lessons backed by extensive personal experience. The lessons are catered to the individual's learning style. They are also informative, entertaining, and productive. Wolfgang does not shy away from allowing the student to ask questions and he brings an endearing, inspiring, patient, and understanding personality to the art and science of learning a language which caters to the student's strengths as well as challenges their comfort level when appropriate. For me, learning is a deeply personal process, so what I enjoy most from Wolfgang is his willingness to go into his own experiences and relate those experiences to the learning of the German language. This allows the language to come to life beyond simply practicing the essentials of pronunciation, writing, and reading since it connects the language to one's personhood. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The price is based on an hour (60 minutes). Of course, depending on the customer's interest, there can be online sessions of 45 minutes, or 90 minutes, etc. Unless the customer has special wishes (e.g. extensive preparations for the online classes) the price is $60 per online session of 60 minutes.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First of all, I listen carefully, very carefully. I believe it is essential for an excellent job to know precisely what my client wants to accomplish. Understanding this is the prerequisite to giving good advice, guidance, and a strategy to follow to reach these goals. There will be a permanent interaction between my client and myself to monitor the progress, eventually speed up the tempo, or, if necessary, slow down.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My entire professional life, I have been teaching languages. In Germany, it was mainly English; in the United States, German, English, and English as a Second Language. I graduated from Humboldt University in Berlin (Germany) with an M.A. in English/ESL. In the United States, I graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, with an M.A. in German language, culture, and history. I was awarded a Ph.D. degree from LaSalle University in Education.
