I installed my first roof in 1982. It takes years of service to become the best. A reputation is difficult to earn, but very easy to destroy.

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Choose a roofer to look at your home, not a salesman.
Your roofer will make a drawing at your home.
Ask for a detailed bid in writing.
When dealing with an insurance claim remember, it's your insurance. Never deal with a contractor that will not give you an estimate, but wants your ins. information.
Never hire companies from 200 miles away.
Watch for start up companies because of storms.
Beware of companies that want to give you a price per square foot. Every home is different.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Hand nailing a roof is the professional way to do it.
Some plank roofs should be gun nailed.
Some companies pass off reject material for new

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Are you a roofer or a salesman?
How long have you been in the trade?
Do you belong to any roofing trade organizations?
Do you have any references?
Will your warranty of labor, be in writing?
Will your salesperson give you their personal cell #?
Is the company involved in any local organizations?

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Most roofing companies are going to send a salesman that probably has never installed a roof. With Texas Discount Roofing, you will get a professional roofer as your appraiser. It just the way all companies should be.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. The most common question is," do I need a new roof?".
I normally can look at a roof and tell if it is going to give more life, but I depend on the owner to let me know if there is any areas that are causing a problem. I've been to many homes that really don't need a new roof. Always good to give someone the truth.
