FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have, over the years, been certified by ACE, and I have studied under Paul Check who had some fantastic insights about the core, rehab, and post rehab training protocols. I have also interviewed many physical therapists to get better insights into muscle imbalances, injury prevention, and better performance. The biggest influence in the fitness world to me was the writings of Dr. Ellington Darden, who worked for Arthur Jones at Nautilus. Arthur Jones was brilliant in that he asked the question of not how much exercise do we need, but how little do we need. He conducted many years of research to come to the conclusions he did. Other people of influence on my training philosophy are: Dr. McGruff, Mark Sisson, and Arthur DeVaney. At present, I spend about 3 to 10 hours a week studying research through resources such as: The Journal of Trainology, Science Daily, Peak Fitness by Joseph Mercola, and many others. I keep learning, and by doing so, I have been able to refine my training and nutrition approach to get the most benefit from the least amount of work.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
The decision for me to get into personal training stemmed simply from my desire to tell everybody I knew about exercise. I always dragged my friends into the gym for a workout. I learned early on that one does not need a lot of exercise to see changes, one needs to train smart. I found this fascinating, and wanted to tell people about it.
