Question and answer

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. take a look at my facebook page where I've listed 13 things your computer guy would never tell you... :)

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. We take the time to explain all options in easy to understand words.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Making a real contribution in people's lives by making them more productive. When someone is so happy with their system that they send me an email thanking me it feels great!

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Why is my computer running so slow?

Often new software will add a line in the startup script that will "pre-load" that software so that it will open a little faster. The unwanted side effect is that it will make the computer boot up more slowly and it will tie up some of the memory that could otherwise be used by programs that are actually in use. Removing these lines from the startup script is an easy way to help restore a system to it's original state.

Windows Vista. If you're running this definitely think about upgrading to Windows 7. It is MUCH better.

Defrag, defrag, defrag... this is another simple way to help keep your system running it's best.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. Once an LA accounting firm that was using tape backups had me build them a new server. They insisted on another tape backup system and I put one in, but i also put in a large (2TB) hard drive and setup nightly backups onto this drive.

Well, about a year later they had a drive failure and needed to restore data from their tape backups. This was a firm with about 8 accountants in Santa Monica that handled many celebrities, and they realized that they didn't have viable backups of their client's financial records. If it had not been for the additional backup drive I installed and configured to automatically backup up their data nightly the firm and all of the accountants would have been out of work or worse.

They were very happy when I produced a backup that was less than 8 hours old.
