We provide in-home tutoring services for parents and their students that cover all ages, all grades, and all subjects in the Southside region of Virginia.

In-home one-on-one tutoring is the least expensive and most effective way to assist the student. The student will receive 100% of the tutor's attention for the tutoring session with concentration first on homework. We also contact the student's teacher and coordinate the tutoring activities with the teacher's lesson plan.

Tutoring subjects include math programs(1-6th grade, plus pre-algebra, algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2/trig, pre-calc, math analysis, AFDA, calculus, statistics) reading (specialists in K-6th, reading comprehension, English to 12th grade, Spanish, Latin, history, biology, chemistry, physics and more. We cover all subjects from K-12th grade. In addition we do SAT/ACT preparation, ASVAB test prep, College Essay assistance and work closely with home schooling families.

All tutors are all professionals, all are licensed teachers/professionals, active or retired. We also have on our staff professional engineers, doctors and people in other specialties with criminal background and sex offender registry reviews on all tutors. All of our tutors have a history of working with Tutor A Team and are qualified in the needed disciplines and all are covered with an employment contract with Tutor A Team and workers compensation insurance.

We are privately owned and not a franchise. We do not require financial contracts for our services but work on a month-to-month basis. Most programs are based on two hours per week in the home.

Tutor A Team, LLC has also been awarded the "Best of the Best" for tutoring for HOME TUTORING SERVICES for 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 by the Virginian Pilot Newspaper. We are also "A" rated by Angie's List!

It was a wonderful experience meeting Jim and Sam. They listened and cared about my granddaughter and are doing all they can to help her. Ashley, her tutor, is great. We are very happy with Tutor A+ and I'm so glad I contacted them!

Jim Waldman and Tutor A Team is a phenomenal resource for any parent. His personal interview with the parents and the children allows him to select just the right tutor for each child or family. I found the tutor he selected for my children to possess all the qualities necessary for our unique situation. We set goals for our kids and with the help of Jim Waldman and Tutor A Team we met those goals for each of my kids. I appreciate his attention to detail and his personal involvement in the entire process as well as his commitment to excellence.

Jim Waldman's philosophy regarding a quality tutoring program is
exactly the template I would have used to set up my own company after
39 years with Chesapeake Public Schools, 33 of them as an
administrator in the school system. Read the web page to understand
how this model provides outstanding support for the student, parent,
tutor and teacher. Helping students to achieve is the main goal of
the company and is the only focus of the Tutor A Team business. We
look forward to serving all students to the best of our ability.

I have been employed as a tutor with Jim Waldman since Tutor A Team's inception. He is an honest, hardworking company president, who really cares about providing individual help for students of all ages. He personally screens all his clients, and does his best to make sure the tutors assigned to them are appropriate for the subject area that needs to be improved. I wouldn't work for anyone else.

Thanks Betsy, you and Randy have been that anchor that a new company needs to success. Tutor A Team has now furnished tutoring assistance to about 250 families in the Tidewater region. Many thanks to you folks and all of the wonderful tutors that we have.

    Thanks again, jim

Jim and his team of tutors are excellent to work with. Jim found just the right Math tutor for me to pass my college math classes. Having been out of school for many years, I was more than just a little nervous about being back in the classroom. The one-on-one tutoring that was convenient to my schedule was perfect. Thanks Jim and the whole A++Team.

First class source of help for your child. They helped my child overcome math learning difficulties and flourish during the school year. Highly recommend!

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. One-on-one in home tutoring is the only thing that we do!

Q. Describe three recent jobs you've completed.

A. We have more than 300 families that we have worked with just in the Southside area. We have over 60 contracted tutors that we know very well and we can work with the majority of education problems even home schooling.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Ask the questions indicated above and be sure to have an in home interview that includes the student prior to any tutoring.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. To be sure to ask if the tutors are licensed and will you get a resume of the proposed tutor prior to the first tutoring session with the option to accept or reject the recommended tutor.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. The single biggest concern we have working with parents is that frequently they wait until the student is totally over his head and then tutoring can cost more because we spend many hours "catching the student up". If the parent knows in advance that come September the student will have trouble in Algebra or Latin, for example, then call us in August to get in some tutoring hours to take the surprise out of the start of school. The more we can head off a problem the better and less expensive it is for the parents.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Tutor A Team works only at the K-12 grade level with only licensed professionals and we work with only one person at a time and we do not require financial contracts. There is a good reason we win all the awards and that is that " We produce the best results and we use only qualified tutors."

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. The best part of my job as Founder of Tutor A Team is the gratification received by the comments made by our clients and their children. To me each client is an individual and we make it a point to not tutor anyone until we meet them and discuss the individual situation with each parent with the student present and preferably in the home environment.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. #1- Can you do it at my home or do i have to come to you? We do it in the home or at a library, your choice.
#2-What is the cost of your tutoring? Most of our subjects are at $45/hour, no extras necessary!
#3-How long is your contract? We have no financial contracts at all, month to month billing.
#4-Will I have the same tutor each time? Yes, definitely.
#5-Are your tutors certified and background checked? Yes, all professionals/licensed and police checked
#6-Are you a franchise? No, we are locally owned in Chesapeake, Virginia serving the Southside.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. We have many wonderful testimonials on our website, www.tutorAteam.com and also on the Angie's list and Thumbtack sites. These are actual words right from the clients---we may change the students name for privacy!

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. We started this company in 2010 with the purpose of helping parents with the education of their children. We insist on making it work and we have a follow up procedure that reviews what happens at every tutoring session. We pay the tutors and you don't become involved in the direct payment of the tutors, your relationship with the tutor is all about your student.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I started Tutor A Team after 40+ years in education at many levels and realized that the current education system is not able to give individual attention to 20-30 students in a particular class...all students are not the same and some need special attention that even the parents cannot provide. We fill in the gaps when necessary and we know our system works!

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. We are proud of all the work that we do....read our testimonials and talk to us prior to making a decision.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. Yes, all of our tutors are licensed and as such have to maintain their education and developments in the industry.

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. Nothing complicated about our pricing, we charge by the hour or portion of an hour with a minimum of one hour at each session. We have no extras, assessments, registration fees or testing costs.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. Don't do it unless you are passionate about education and you will find out that most teachers get into teaching because of this reason.

Q. What is your greatest strength?

A. All members of Tutor A Team take the tutoring responsibility very seriously. We are all veterans in the field of education and we know that one hour of tutoring per week can make a big difference for a student that is having trouble with a particular subject....it can make the difference between an "A" and a "D" !

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. Why do you call your company Tutor A Team?

We believe that good tutoring has to be a team effort. The team comprises the Parent/Student, the tutor, the students teacher and we make sure all parties are fully involved. The majority of the classroom teachers are very pleased to work with our tutors. On a teacher to teacher basis they communicate the problems of the student very well and it really helps the classroom teacher help the student.

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. For students going to take the college tests, ACT,SAT, please be prepared to start "prep" tutoring about 4 weeks in advance of the test and probably allow 2 hours each weekend to get them ready. The "prep" should also include the student understanding the logic and reasoning of the actual test.

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. You say you involve the students teacher in the team concept, how does this work? After 2 or 3 tutoring sessions we have the tutor contact the classroom teacher, with the parents permission, and discuss the students progress. This generally establishes a regular line of email or phone conversations with the teacher and tutor that greatly benefits the student.
