- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have always been fascinated with how the bodymind works and what actually lies behind the physical ailments we experience. When in my mid 30's I experienced extreme physical discomfort of painful stiff muscles and joints, depressing fatigue and a low level of desire to be fully in life I began experimenting with modalities such as Reflexology and energy healing such as Reiki. I couldn't get enough of the information I was absorbing. It lead me to read voraciously about metaphysical perspectives, spiritual expansion, mind over matter, Chinese Medicine, Aruveydic. I began practicing Reflexology and Reiki out of my home in the days where you whispered such things, lest someone think you were from another planet! My health improved, my spirits lifted, my pain began to alleviate and my enthusiasm came to life. I then studied Massage Therapy for several reasons... to understand how the body works and to round out my understanding of how the Whole fits together AND to be able to come out into the world with my practice. Most people understood Massage and didn't think it was weird. Reiki was another matter! Now, Reiki and energy healing/balancing is found much more in the "mainstream" and even in hospitals. I am completely energized by my work and witnessing someone emerging out of pain and regaining their enjoyment of life is amazingly rewarding.
