Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. I am a portrait photographer who likes to book sessions with newborns and children; I also like to work with pregnant couples for maternity photos and am transitioning my business to include weddings.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I understand the technical aspects of photography and am great with people, especially children. I love to play with my clients while I create beautiful portraits of them.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I love getting to do what I love: photograph people. The portrait session is fun, I get to meet new people, and I enjoy processing my photos to give my clients a product they can be proud of.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. How should I prepare for my session?

I tell clients to wear clean, coordinated clothing, and to be well rested and have had a bite to eat before their session. Having a snack helps everyone's mood for the session, as does having a good night of sleep. Clean, coordinated clothes adds to a pulled together group portrait.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. I spend time one on one getting to know my clients so that they have time to relax and feel comfortable in front of the camera. I like to think that my photographic style is about natural connections, relationships, and capturing specials times in moments in my clients' lives.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. I would advise a new photographer to carry his or her camera with him/her wherever they went. Shooting a lot is the best way to get the right shot.

Second I would advise a new photographer to be a people person; be genuinely interested in learning about who your clients are so that you can create beautiful photos together.
