Weddings, like similar once-in-a-lifetime situations, require an intuitive sensitivity for the situation, and outstanding photographic technical competency. There are no second chances - no take two. Brides and Grooms entrust the professional wedding photographer with this, the most precious time of their lives, and in so doing create a strong partnership, if only for a fleeting moment. It never ceases to amaze me that in the search for a professional wedding photographer, very often decisions are made on the basis of price. While most of us cannot afford the exclusionary pricing that some photographers demand, a couple should not sell the rights to their biggest day to the lowest bidder either. It takes more than just a camera to make someone a photographer.

What you should be looking for in a professional wedding photographer is the ability to capture this one moment for ever, in a way that you will enjoy viewing those images for the rest of your life. For no matter how small or large your wedding might be, you will remember absolutely nothing of your wedding, it will be a haze in your memory and the only reminder of your wedding will be the beautiful images captured by your invaluable professional wedding photographer. You will treasure these wedding photos for years. You will use these images to recall those moments that you cannot remember. You will look at these wedding photos with your grandchildren and you will reminisce about that wonderful day in your life.

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. I primarily do wedding photography, but it's not uncommon for me to branch out. I work with kids, models and even do concert photography!

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Get to know the photographer as a person. This is someone that you want to be comfortable having around you all day. Make sure that your personalities mesh well. Also make sure that you have the same creative vision!

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. It's never about you, it's about the model/client. Always make your subject(s) happy. When they are comfortable and at ease with you, your photos will reflect it.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I love emotion. I'm not an "insert person" here type photographer. I want natural, genuine emotion; from sadness to sheer glee. Images should tell a story and without emotion, there is no story; my photos have a story ready to be heard.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. When you present the client the photos and they see that photo that makes them stop and you can see the excitement in their eyes. You know you took something they are going to love for the rest of their life.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Do you edit photos? Yes, I touch up all usable images.
Do you have a studio? I have an in home studio that I use for certain shoots. I do prefer on location shoots, but I also love shooting in my home.
What kind of equipment do you use? Professional grade Canon gear.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. I got a call on a Tuesday from a lady who needed a wedding photographer for Saturday. Her first photographer had scammed her and she was in a bad spot. I was actually free and was able to make it. When she got her photos, she called me crying about how fate that she ended up with me and how she thought her photos looked like they were straight out of a magazine. I was so happy I could do that for her.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. That the job only just begins after the shoot! Once I'm wrapped at your wedding or shoot, my work is just beginning. Next comes sorting, editing, retouches, tagging, layouts, etc. I spend from 80 - 200 hours working on your photos after the shoot!
