Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.
A. I help to facilitate a complete life overhaul for clients to become their true, authentic selves. We make gradual, small changes that lead to an enormous change in the end. The health coach side addresses nutrition and lifestyle changes that keep you from reaching your goals and the personal training helps to get your physical body working the way it is intended to. Its not a quick fix, but we will hold your hand through the process to make it the last fix you need! We will change the way you function to make it easy to maintain the weight loss rather than gaining it back. We hope to give you the tools and resources to do this for the rest of your life.
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Make sure you connect with the person that will be training you. Personal training is just that- PERSONAL! If you don't feel comfortable talking to your trainer that should be a red flag that you are not a good fit.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. Tell your trainer what you want. I tell my clients that if they don't like squats, we don't do squats! You should enjoy your workouts and a good trainer can adjust and give you a workout that is effective and enjoyable.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. Make sure that your trainer has the proper training and education. Ideally you want a trainer who has at least an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science or Kinesiology and a nationally recognized certification. Ask about continuing education as well to make sure they are up to date on all the current research and training techniques.
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. What exactly do you need help with? Is your problem motivation, skill and ability, adherence, unsure of proper form, unable to put together a workout, not sure where to start, confused on how to eat well? There are so many ways that we can assist you and different ways to reach success, but we need to know what we are overcoming so we can best design a program that fits into your lifestyle and budget. You will overcome these issues once we pinpoint what has stopped your success in the past. If you don't know, thats ok too! We can help you get to the root of the problem.
Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?
A. I go to yearly national and international conventions to learn the latest and greatest information available in this field. It is always evolving (remember leg warmers and Jane Fonda?! Oh how things have changed!). I have also presented at these conferences and train personal trainers and educators. I teach a personal trainer certification course and I'm passionate about lifelong learning in the fields of health and nutrition.
