Mosaique specializes in multicultural programs integrating the disciplines of language, culture and the performing arts.
Currently, our core program consists of Middle Eastern dance and music. In addition to weekly classes, we work with individual clients to create unique programs which are tailored to their specific needs and interests.
Our chief instructor, Katayoun Hutson, is a former elementary school language teacher who is also one of the most experienced and expert instructors of Middle Eastern dance in the region. Her specialities include folkloric dances and the Persian dances of her Iranian heritage. She combines her expertise of Middle Eastern dances with her experiences in the classroom to create dynamic programs. In addition, she brings the perspective of a diverse and unique background which includes a wide range of experiences and accomplishments as a performer, educator and community leader.
We have created programs for various community and business organizations including Girl Scouts of America, County of Loudoun, McLean Racquet and Health Club, Cascades Library, and Loudoun Country Day School. The unique feature of our programs is our creative use of music, movement and storytelling, which make our programs fun and educational for all ages.
A. Trying out a class and actually partcipating is really the best way to find out if he/she is a good teacher for you. This test run also alllows you to see what kind of students this teacher attracts and if you would enjoy being a part of that dynamic.
A. In Middle Eastern dance and belly dance, there is no standardized methodology and no common vocabulary of terms. Every teacher uses her own terminology, though there may be some popular terms we all use. Because there are many variations and styles, there is usually a number of techniques of doing the same moves. This gets confusing when you are new and you take classes at different studios.
A. What is their teaching philosophy? What is their experience? What ages have they taught? What are the different programs they offer? Is cultural context and music incorporated? How long have their students studied with them? What opportunities do they offer students?
A. It important to know what you want to get out of your experience. If you don't know that, then try to be open to many possibilities.
A. Mosaique does not just offer classes, we create an experience for our members. We offer an inviting and dynamic environment where members feel confident to explore their talents and strive for their full potential in all of their endeavors.
