About Lori by Design

I am a creative enthusiast with a passion for good design and layout. I am crazy about colors and the emotions they evoke connecting the essence of the product to the message.

I believe good advertising makes relevant and unexpected connections between a brand and a creation, so a synergistic approach to every project is essential.

My specialties include but are not limited to publications, brochures, rack cards, newsletters and brand identity with sales collateral. I meet deadlines and am articulate about my work making files press ready for seamless print runs.

Recently, I have been working on a considerable amount of Powerpoint presentation decks with two branches of the armed services and including branded collateral. I feel a deep sense of honor providing my services.

Lori By Design, LLC is graphic design company specializing in a synergistic approach creating a clear message to prospective clients and target audience. This is realized by starting with a clear strategy statement incorporating branded color, style and font selections. Establishing a branded presence through visual communications strengthens the advertisement and intended message. The purpose of the product is a point of departure for determining its spirit.

Design concepts are the most challenging part of the creative process but determine the underlying reason and logic—the primary idea behind the piece. Everything has a reason and purpose from color and font choice to image placement and stylistically cropping images. It's been said, you can never know too much about a client to create a memorable, impacting piece. Audience demographics are equally important.

Lori By Design starts your commission by covering these basic questions before any work is spec'd to you. Working at a publishing company for over eight years as a designer/graphic artist and then as creative director designing and publishing magazines for tourism, lifestyle and Chamber of Commerce associations, provided a vast amount of experience and knowledge with different clients and mediums. I am primarily a print designer but as my business has expanded, I create multimedia pieces also for the United States Navy and Marine Corps.

Design is my life passion that started at a very early age. I welcome new projects and hope you enjoy my portfolio as it constantly is redeveloping.

I am very customer service oriented and my clients have always had the utmost praise for my work and the results they got from it.

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. I find myself doing cover designs and/or title slides for most every project I take on... which is good as it serves as an introduction to the following information. With it the tone and voice of the piece is realized through layout, color and image selectionwhether created or photographed. Font choice and selection are decided and should be used as a design element, sometimes without an image and communicate just as effectively.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I believe what I like most about my job is that it doesn't feel like a job. Art, color, fonts, design are the core of my soul. I am happiest when presented with a new project. I love doing the research before I begin finding out as much as possible about the client, audience and intended result. As the project develops and changes are made to more accurately fine tune the piece, I love being able to match the "feel" and emotions to the product.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. Absolutely yes! I think continuing education is vital for professional and technical development in any field but especially in the area graphic design and marketing. I stay current with trends, technologies and methods subscribing to lynda.com, attending training seminars and by networking with other artists and designers in my field of expertise.

As our society becomes more and more immediate with handheld devices like smart phones and tabletsdesign professionals must stay on top of and be trained in the latest methods of submission. One of the reasons I chose this profession is there are always new trends and techniques in getting the brand or message out to the consumer.
