Assessment and training help for shy, fearful, anxious, and/or aggressive dogs. I work directly with owners, foster care givers, shelter, and clinic staff to detail the most effective and humane ways to change the behavior of fearful dogs. Phone consultations are available.
I am a professional dog trainer (CPDT-KA) with additional certification in clicker training (CAP2). I am the author of 'A Guide To Living With & Training A Fearful Dog'.
My clients appreciate my non-confrontational approach to working with dogs. They learn why dogs are afraid; how to identify fear based behaviors in dogs; and the most effective methods for teaching dogs new skills and behaviors.
I also offer 1/2 and full-day seminars and lectures on fearful dogs and provide a positive help for them.

Debbie Jacobs knows so much about fearful dogs and is more than willing to share her expertise. She gave us lots of ideas to help our fearful dog overcome his anxiety and to live the life he was intended, a happy, carefree beagle. I definitely would recommend Debbie to anyone with a fearful dog. And the price is right too.

A. Dog owners and others seeking advice to help fearful, shy, aggressive and anxious dogs should look for trainers with experience using reward based training methods. Preventing the appearance or escalation of aggression is important. Confrontational training methods can increase fearful and aggressive responses in dogs.
A. There are dog trainers without any foundation education in animal behavior or training. They employ methods of training that have no scientific basis in learning theory or dog behavior. Be wary of trainers who use jargon to describe dogs that has been shown to have no basis in actual dog behavior such as; pack leader, alpha dog and dominant.
A. What certification do you hold? What was the last course on dog training or animal behavior you attended? Are you a member of any professional organizations? Is there another dog trainer I can contact as a reference?
A. How committed are you to working with this dog? What are your goals and expectations for this dog? Is your lifestyle appropriate for a dog?
