I am a seasoned pro with 25+ years in graphic design, advertising, package design, collateral, identity, marketing strategies; illustration and photography (both location and studio).I have experience with local, national and international accounts. Niche markets a specialty, both commercial and non-profit. Efficient and highly productive, I'm usually more affordable in the long run than less experienced designers who charge lower rates.
A. Be prepared as much as you can, and provide as much relevant input as possible. Try to think in terms of what your audience/market/customer will respond to -- not just what you like. This is communication, not just pretty pictures: think about your message, what you want your customers to know -- but don't try to tell them everything at once.
A. To get this far in the business takes years of focused education, training and experience. You can't get an iMac for Christmas and think you can produce the kind of high quality, professional communication that someone with the proper education and skill set can. You can buy a scalpel -- it doesn't make you a brain surgeon.
A. What do you need from me in terms of guidance and input? What are the proper stages required to bring the project to completion? What will I own once the project is done, and what are the deliverables? In short, the client should have a clear sense of the scope of the project, its costs and timeline before any decisions are made.
A. First and foremost, the client needs to know who his company is, where it sits within the competitive landscape, and how it's perceived by its potential customers. From there, it would be nice to have specific goals in mind.
But all of this can be talked through if necessary -- if you haven't thought through it before a first consultation, it can be done during and after -- and I can do my own research to find a lot of this out as well. I just have to charge for that time.
