About Brett's Guide Service

Brett’s Guide Service is owned and operated by full-time professional guide Brett Basim.

Brett has been a professional fishing guide in the Washington state since 1990. Based just outside Seattle, Brett offers fully furnished, guided fishing for Steelhead, Salmon, Sturgeon, Kokanee, Dolly Varden, and Sockeye.

Several premier rivers are less than an hour away from Seattle. Brett works in partnership with select professional fishing guides, offering fishing charters for corporate and large groups, ensuring your angling needs are met.

You will fish out of a new 23 ½ foot Alumaweld Super Vee Pro sled, powered by a 200hp Mercury. Heated on cold days, this sled is exceptional. There is plenty of room for up to six anglers!

All of your fishing gear is provided. Brett uses G-Loomis rods, Pflueger spinning reels, and Abu Garcia levelwind reels. Brett provides the best tackle, bait, and lures to hook into your fish. All you need is a fishing license, a few personal essentials, and a positive attitude.

Brett also provides scenic trips in the wild and scenic Skagit River for outdoor photographers, videographers, and those who love to view the beautiful scenery. In late fall and winter, you can view the largest wintering population of Bald Eagles in the United States, which draws visitors from around the world.

As you sit in the warmth of a heated sled, you will be in a position to view these magnificent raptors as they roost in the trees lining the banks and feed on fish on the gravel bars.

Where Brett Fishes

We fish the Skagit, Snohomish, Snoqualmie, Skykomish, Cowlitz, and Columbia Rivers. We also fish North Puget Sound, Lake Washington, Lake Sammamish, and Lake Stevens.

The Skagit, Snohomish, and Skykomish Rivers are great fishing rivers in the Northwest and are less than an hour away from Seattle! The Cowlitz and Columbia Rivers are less than 2 hours away from Seattle and minutes from Portland, depending on where we fish.

Brett's Fishing Calendar

We fish every day all year! With each species, we have peaks of the fishery. The calendar below indicates only the peak of each fishery; this depends on the run timing and more. See our website for a more detailed calendar.

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. These days cost is important, however there are some other things you should look at.

Is you guide full time or part time? Are they actually licensed? In the Northwest, most of our rivers are navigable. That means your guide needs a Coast Guard License. Most importantly, they must be fully insured.

Full time guide prices are pretty standard throughout the region. Part time guides will have lower prices because they also hold a full time job and guiding for them is more of a hobby. You might save 25.00 - 50.00 per person when fishing with a part time guide, however full-time fishing guides fish on an average of 4-5 days per week, year around. So they are always on top of what is going on. Part time guides fish 1-2 days per week.

After all, you are going to spend the day fishing, so is it worth it to save a few dollars and sacrafice your day of fun in the outdoors?

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Customer service happens even when the client is not with us.

A full day fishing trip is 7-8 hours. But our day is much more than that! We arrive long before the customer and we are working long after the customer leaves for home. On average a day of work for us is 13 -14 hours.

We do this because the customer matters to us and we want to make sure everything is ready for you!

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Are you full time or part time?

Do you have a guide license for the species we are fishing?

Do you have insurance?

Do you have a Coast Guard License?

Will you send me proof of these license?

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. First of all you should visit the website and just read some of the infromation about our services. This is a great way to make sure you ask all the right questions.

You should know when you would like to fish. Even though we fish year around, there are busy times of the year. You should know when you would like to fish and be prepared to have an alternate day to fish, because your selcted day could already be booked.

You should also know how many people will be in your party. The quantity of anglers can have an affect on price.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Brett's Guide Service has two full time fishing guides and one part time fishing guide to facilitate your outdoor experience.

We can handle corporate groups, families, etc. We do not party fish, so when you book with us, your group has the boat for the day.

We also work day in and day to know what the fish are doing based on run timing, water levels, and the time of the year.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I really enjoy seeing people catch fish and have an outdoor experience. I grew up fishing and it has had a positive impact on my life as welll as that of my family.

To see clients have a positive outdoor experience is something I know they will remember for a long time to come.
