Introduction: My background includes 15 years of personal training, strength coaching, wellness coaching, and experience in gym, wellness, and clinical settings. I currently hold 5 certifications (NSCA- CPT and CSCS, ACSM- CES, SFG, and FMS-Level 2) and I have a degree in exercise science. I am currently ramping up my personal training and coaching business after 12+ years working full time in high school strength coaching, employee wellness, physical therapy and cardiac rehabilitation settings for St. John Hospital in Longview, WA. During my career with St. John I successfully created a system wide weight management, employee group fitness, post rehabilitation and high school strength and conditioning programs. I am also completing certifications from Precision Nutrition Coaching and StrongFirst Level 2 Kettlebell Instruction (SFGII). As a young athlete I was always fascinated with health and fitness. After getting my first weight set of plastic covered cement weights from Target when I was 12, I became instantly hooked! Unfortunately I was misguided and ended up with chronic low back and shoulder injuries later in high school that sidelined my athletic career. Both of these injuries initially started in the gym and I knew there had to be a better way to use resistance training as a way to strengthen my body without reinjuring myself. Unknowingly, these injuries started me down the road on my quest to learn as much as possible about how to help others perform at their best while living a healthy, balanced lifestyle. Slowly my pain improved to the point where I could do some reasonably heavy lifting while competing as a Scottish Highland Games athlete. Through the use of carefully designed resistance training programs, stretching, mobility work, and proper nutrition I was able to progress along the way to a professional athlete in the sport in the sport I had grown to love and I have continued to compete for over 10 years now while setting 2 World Records in the process. I am now pain free and feel better than ever at age 35! I am passionate about holistic health and fitness. My unique background as a medical professional, athlete and strength coach have shaped my unconventional philosophy of how I approach each clients individual needs to achieve their best results though safe, fun, and functional based workouts. I have a unique approach to training that includes testing functional movement patterns (FMS), range of motion, fitness, and performance before starting your program with me. I often recommend corrective exercises to restore functional movement patterns and overall mobility before moving into more challenging resistance training programs. This will assure safety and continued progress. You should not get hurt in the gym! I also take time to get to know my clients on a deeper level to truly work towards their goals and find the behavioral patterns that are needed to assure success. I provide individual personal training (one on one), customized semi private coaching(small group 2-4 clients ), group classes (6-10 clients per class), and personalized nutritional planning services to a wide variety of clientele, ranging from young athletes to frail seniors with significant limitations. I want to help you achieve your goals and empower you to become more fit than you ever thought possible! Please contact me for more information. I would be glad to discuss options to get you started towards your goals today!

Working out with John far exceeded what I thought I would gain out of a boot camp class/ exercise class. His knowledge and ability to create a plan that get results are ranked up with the best-if you ask me! John will challenge you and inspire you in the workouts and give you the tools you need for success. His passion for fitness shows in his own health and he wants that for every client. In my experience he created education of sound exercises -suggested tracking food and taught me by being consistent the results come. My best round with John in 12 weeks I achieved a goal of 24lb loss and 11 inches and increased strength..The principals he taught have changed me for the better and I continue them today. Thanks John!

John is a tremendous coach with a wealth of information. He has helped train me for Highland games over the past two years. He has a great ability to take people with little or no experience and help develop and maximize their potential. In the relatively short time I have been working with him, he has always been available for valuable feedback and advice. I am impressed with his willingness to continue to help me, despite my own stubbornness or making excuses. He is always there to encourage me and is an absolute professional.

I participated in an employer-provided fitness program for approximately 4 years, and John was our fitness trainer. John is extremely knowledgeable in his field, and he relates well with people of all ages and level of fitness. Staying fit has always been very important to me, and working out under John's guidance brought me to a whole new level of fitness I never thought possible! One of the most important things John taught me that your age is only a number – not an excuse. At 50+ years old, I am in better shape now than I have ever been!

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

The most common type of client I have worked with are those trying to lose weight and/or recover from an injury while getting in shape. I also have many athletes who come to me for training.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Look for trainers with a certification from NSCA, ACSM, NASM or ACE. These are the only nationally accredited organizations. I hold two certifications from the NSCA and one from the ACSM.
