Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I have a different approach to couple dancing which I have developed over my many years of teaching. My goal is help people dance with another person. While a syllabus is essential to work from it can also become a crutch. Ultimately each dancer decides for himself how to interpret the song being played. Why sit out? You don't know how to Rumba? Just a few lessons and just a few steps can get you out there moving on the dance floor. More lessons and more steps can make it even enjoyable. Because I am not affiliated with a studio I can bend the syllabus, and can teach you what you want to learn. One of my favorite things is seeing the magic happen when a couple is deciding on their "first dance" in preparation for their upcoming wedding. It is sweet to hear their choice of song and for us to collaborate to create a unique and memorable dance especially when they were non-dancers!

Holly was a perfect fit for my fiance and me. My fiance was nervous about our first dance, and dancing in general, but Holly put him at ease and taught the lessons in a way that gave him confidence on the dance floor. She taught us us a simple waltz step with some crowd-pleasing flourishes that worked perfectly for our wedding. We greatly appreciated her expertise, patience and grace. Overall, the lessons were a very pleasant and memorable experience we will always treasure!

Let me start by saying: If you want to learn to dance, or to increase your dance skill, call Holly! She is a fantastic dance instructor and a wonderful dancer--as well as a lot of fun! She has been teaching my husband and I swing and ballroom dance and we just love her. So, I knew it was finally time to really learn to dance when my best friend told me she was going to have a 18-piece swing band at her New Year’s Eve wedding. My husband has never been very enthusiastic about learning to dance, so I had to find a way to make it comfortable for him (and that he couldn’t escape). When I found Holly I was thrilled! Holly agreed to come teach us, and another couple of friends, in our own living room. Even after just one lesson, Holly had us all swing dancing respectably enough that we wouldn’t need to feel embarrassed on the dance floor! We all enjoyed it so much that we’ve continued to take lessons and every time Holly has been an absolute delight. Holly makes the dance feel natural, and she’s very patient and friendly. My reluctant husband now loves dancing and looks forward to our lessons. I would recommend Holly to anyone who wants to ballroom dance or learn swing. We are so glad we found her! Thank you, Holly!

Shortly after becoming engaged - and realizing the inherent lack of dancing abilities of my Father and Husband-to-be- I sought out a ballroom dancing instructor who could get us going with the basics. When 4 different people recommended the same person, I knew I had found a winner. Holly was warm, welcoming and superbly knowledgeable. She broke down each step and distinct rhythm methodically, interjecting historical and cultural facts related to each. Each lesson built into the next, allowing us to fully absorb, interpret and express the various steps we learned. We are now a few weeks out from our wedding and not only am I feeling confident about my dancing, but also, my parents and fiance are as well!

Holly is very good! Making it simple for someone who thinks dancing is hard and complicated.
Private Dance Lessons

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

While I started with adults in private or group lessons, I have found more recently that my students have gotten younger. I have even taught teenagers in and out of school settings and really found it satisfying. Of course there are always private lessons and especially with goals like weddings. It is an honor to aid a couple in deciding what to dance to a favorite song, and I have assisted father-daughter and mother-son dances too. This is a time when all eyes are on the couple so I offer style tips to make it special.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

A dance instructor can be a tremendous aid in getting a couple to dance together. Dancing is a form of communication and a good dance teacher will help you to have a dance conversation. The instructor should be well versed in both lead and follow as well as knowledgeable in a variety of dance genres. For some people a dance studio environment and competition dance are enjoyable. I personally like an informal approach and atmosphere.
