Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Weddings and Senior pictures are the most common by far. Although I really love it when I get to do an engagement session and then the wedding later, it's so neat to see the couple progress in their love!

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Ask them what they charge for, find out the hourly charge rate and make sure you specify exactly what you want. If you leave anything up to the photographer they will give you the most expensive option first.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. I wish I knew why photographers charged so much! Well when we say we charge $100/hr, it's really $25 an hour. For every hour of photography we have 3hrs of proof-work. That's how I design my charges at least, I can't say for anyone else.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Try to ask details about their past jobs or experiences. The way they tell the story and what parts they emphasize can really tell you a lot about how they work and their personality. Really it's all about finding someone who clicks with you so your event is stress-free.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Know your budget, how many prints you want if any at all, what kind of style you would like (i.e. color, B&W, sepia, color accent etc.)

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I pay attention to what each person wants and I combine it with my own flair into my pictures. The result isn't a standard photo you see in a magazine; it's a personalized memory that YOU made possible.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I love interacting with all my clients! It's great to meet everyone and hear their stories and I really enjoy being able to preserve these happy moments for them.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Can we get extra prints with that? Yes you can, I am fully ready to work with you to get exactly what you need. I have no problem adding, subtracting or rearranging anything to make it work for you.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. I had a wedding to shoot in someone's backyard, it was raining and I almost got lost trying to find the place. However, as soon as I arrived and parked the car the rain stopped and the high happy energy of the group immediately made it one of the most fun weddings I have ever had the honor to preserve. It helped that I happened to be wearing the same shoes as the bride and bridesmaids; converse just go with everything.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. That not everyone can just pick up a fancy camera and be an instant professional. It takes skill, practice and a lot of hard work to get to a professional point. With everyone owning a digital camera today that little bit of knowledge tends to get left out.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. My Grandfather had a SLR camera that he let me play with as a child. Since then it grew into something more then just play; I now enjoy working with DSLR cameras as my career.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I'm constantly reading about the latest trends in photography, new poses, new places, new editing techniques I look at it all. I also make sure to take classes once in a while to retain my professional skill. Taking a beginning photography class even after I have completed a degree in it really helps me remember everything I've learned.
