It's bad news if a message machine answers during regular business hours. Do they sound friendly and professional? A professional company should have a knowledgeable employee handling the phones. Asking to call you back with an tough answer is acceptable, but most general questions should be easily answered right away. 1- Find out how big the crew is and exactly who is going to be doing the actual work. How many years of experience do they have? (A crew of two to three people with at least three years combined minimum experience is ideal.) 2- Does the window cleaning company carry a business license to operate in your city and liability insurance? 3- Does the company have its own employees, or do they send out sub-contractors? (Generally you want empoyees as sub-contracors tend to be over worked and under paid, meaning lower quality for your home. If they do use subcontractors, make sure that they are legal subcontractors listed with the state, and that they also carry liability insurance. Request proof. You will also want to interview the individual subcontractor that will be doing the job. Ask them all the same questions.) 4- Does the company belong to a window cleaning association? (Being members of a recognized window cleaning association means they keep up to date on the latest trends in the window cleaning industry.) 5- Before hiring professional window cleaners, ask if you can get a list of references.(Call the references. Seriously, what is the point of getting references unless you call? What if they are fake!) 6- Do they give free estimates?(Get at least three estimates. Try going with the medium to high prices for window cleaning. You usually get what you pay for. Just remember, you dont want to pay for just a good window cleaning job. You want a professional that is not going to damage your windows, who is covered by insurance, and guarantees the work to your satisfaction.)
