Introduction: David Kim is a classically-trained cellist and private instructor from the New York metropolitan area currently living and teaching in Seattle.
He is a former principal cellist of Carnegie Hall's National Youth Orchestra of the USA, under the baton of Valery Gergiev, Christoph Eschenbach with soloists Emanuel Ax and Denis Matsuev. He has also served as assistant principal cellist under the direction of Marin Alsop.
As a member and alumnus of the National Youth Orchestra, he has performed masterclasses and workshops with distinguished soloists and principal cellists of major orchestras, including Janine Jansen, Tamás Varga of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, John Sharp of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Brinton Smith of the Houston Symphony.
He received his bachelor's from Princeton University, where he continued to study and perform as a member of the Princeton University Orchestra and Opus (Princeton's chamber music society). He currently resides in Seattle, WA where he holds a private cello studio and serves as a cello coach for the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra. David plays on a Kishony cello on genererous loan from The Virtu Foundation.
