Andy is a fantastic contractor! We hired him to make a loft bed after reading all of his good reviews. His excellent service, trustworthiness, and skillful craftsmanship will leave me recommending Andy to all of my friends. I thought building this wonky bed would be a pain, but our experience was very positive.

Working with Andy was very easy. He is very responsive and has a ton of creative ideas. He even helped with setup and delivery, which was a huge help to us. Andy offered to use reclaimed wood and recycled doors to keep cost low (a priority), and even did some bargaining on our behalf. We really appreciated it.

The bed is extremely well-made and beautiful. Very study, extraordinary craftsmanship, and exceeded my expectations. Andy is also very transparent, explaining all of his costs on an easy-to-understand receipt. His prices are very reasonable, especially considered the quality of his product. He is a true professional.

Thank you, Andy, for imagining exactly what I wanted, for your helpfulness, and for doing the job right.

Andy helped me rehab my deck this Spring and I'm really pleased with the result. This is the third project Andy has done for me and I've been very satisfied with the quality of his work and his attention to detail. He provides very detailed bids and has always kept me in formed of changes along the way. He is great about providing cost effective alternatives to getting a project done right. Andy is honest and professional, I will continue to rely on him for other home repair and improvements in the future.

For the last few years, our stand-alone wood stove has leaked badly every time it rained with water streaming down one side of the inside pipe. The top of the stove was covered with rust every time it rained.

We called a local roofing company that had a great reputation and had been in business over 25 years. When he arrived and saw the extreme steepness of the roof, he stated he wanted no part in fixing it as it was too dangerous.

Andrew Smith, owner of Capstone Construction who visits our non-profit animal sanctuary on occasion, saw the leaks firsthand. We were surprised at his optimistic outlook that he could fix it and he immediately began building a 24-foot ladder with a wooden stop on one end to hang over the ridge top. It was extremely difficult and dangerous to raise the long ladder while he climbed up a very high stationary ladder to get it in place.

Andy was able to maneuver the new ladder, hook it, and transfer himself to it to begin cleaning and laying down adhesive to stop the leaks. A couple of hours later, it began to rain in a heavy downpour and there were absolutely no leaks. There have been none since the repair even though it has rained almost every day.

Andy successfully fixed the leak which would have cost a small fortune if we ever could have found someone willing to attempt a repair on a roof with such a steep pitch and the height of the roof.

Andy has a great personality and, no matter how difficult the task may be, always seems to have the experience and expertise to find a solution.

Andy has worked with us since 2006. He has remodeled bathrooms, done indoor and outdoor painting projects, installed hardwood floor and carpet, built sheds, helped us put in a circular cobblestone driveway, supervised a roof project, installed a water heater, built retaining walls, paths, a vegetable garden, done landscaping, repaired our swimming pool and spa, installed kitchen appliances, done woodworking and built furniture.

He has come to our rescue many times for emergency repairs. He is great about setting up projects for us to help with labor or to do ourselves.

Andy's main concern in any project is safety. He is also interested in saving the customer money whenever possible but never at the expense of quality. He is an environmentally conscious contractor. He will always come back and do warranty work if needed. His records are always thorough and specific.

In an effort to do the extra little things we request, he can run behind schedule and the job may take a bit longer than first projected.

The main reason we bring Andy back for project after project is his honesty and integrity. We have worked with many contractors in our 30 plus years of marriage and have never found anyone we trust this much.

Andrew is a dedicated, knowledgeable contractor, and a pleasure to have around the house. He was very agreeable to our project suggestions, easy to get along with, and offers great ideas.
    I would definitely recommend Capstone!

Capstone General Contracting came strongly recommended from some trusted friends of ours, so we went into the project with high expectations, but I have to say at the completion I was blown away. The project was a soundproof studio in our basement and the end result is astonishing. Andy completed the project for far less than other contractors said it would cost and achieved a far greater level of noise reduction than others said would be possible - all in less time than others projected. Andy and crew were extremely respectful of our home and our schedule, and kept the worksite clean and organized so there was literally no disruption to our daily routine. His billing is crystal clear and beyond fair to the client. I could not be more pleased and look forward to working with Capstone for our next two projects later this year.

I hired Andy to remodel a very ugly bathroom. He had great ideas on how to save me money and had creative ways to work around some of the restrictions that we ran into. Andy is a pleasure to work with. He is honest and is sincerely interested in making the customer happy. He has extensive experience in so many areas, and it comes through in his work product and his ability to deal with both the minutia and the big picture.
Iíd recommend his services to anyone looking for a dependable and fair contractor. And, he loves my dogs. Thatís always a huge plus! :-)

Andrew is a pleasure to work with. Several months ago he replaced my front door and that went smoothly and looks great. Then more recently he has helped me with a major landscaping project, creating a bed for a new hedge, building two large raised planting beds to grow vegetables in, and installing a 4-rain barrel system to catch rainwater, complete with an electric pump, an inside timer system, underground piping that comes up in the veggie beds for drip irrigation, and a pvc "house" to shelter the veggies from the cold... It all looks great and Andrew was always very helpful with explanations and suggestions and showing me how to do bits of the work myself that I wanted to do myself.

I would definitely recommend him to anyone. He goes out of his way to make sure your project is the best it can be. I'm already talking to him about what else I'm planning for my house!

Andy took a look at a roof leak that has existed for two decades. Others have come out and offered advice and services, but were never able to accurately identify or solve the problem. Andy not only solved the underlying issue, but his work was always excellent. He listened to our green concerns and came up with a reasonable and appropriate solution and he always explained every step of the process in detail. Additionally, he did exceptional clean-up and barely left a trace that work had been done inside or outside the house.

Andy Smith is a great contractor! He was first recommended to me three years ago after a move, and helped me install 1200 sq. ft. of hardwood flooring in our home. He then installed 150 sq. ft. of slate tile in our entry. He remodeled our entry bathroom, laying new flooring, a new vanity and commode. He undertook a deck project that involved taking out large cedar timbers and replacing old 4x4 railing with ipe and stainless steel cables. Along the way, he's taught me invaluable lessons on home repair and renovation, exhibiting patience and a dedication to get things right, even if it means giving up a few dollars. He has often come in under budget. He's a great communicator, always providing pictures of work performed and keeping you up to date on progress if you're out of town. I trust Andy implicitly, and have had a lot of work performed while away. I recommended him to my mother, who hired him to do roof work. She's a tough customer, and is rarely satisfied with price or work performed, but she was satisfied with Andy. He's knowledgeable, honest and hardworking, and he's the right guy to hire!

I'm very pleased with the custom cabinet Andy built for my kitchen. He was very responsive during all of my communications with him and provided detailed estimates of cost and progress before, during and at the completion of the job. He had to come up with a creative solution to make the cabinet work and now it looks like it came with my kitchen. I'll definitely work with Andy again.

Andy did some work to my Momís Condo, in the late 2010. We were extremely pleased with his knowledge level, work ethic and especially the end result. The kitchen tile, general plumbing instillation and finishing work was wonderful. Andy has an artistís flair when it comes to design work and we especially enjoyed the tile pattern he created for our Mom above the stove. Thanks, Andy!

We are very happy with the work Mr. Smith did on our house. We hired him for two projects: a closed in porch and a walk-in stone tile shower. Both projects were completed on time and with good results. The shower is very beautiful. Family and friends that come to visit say its gorgeous and they love taking a shower in it. Mr. Smith does excellent work and is a very friendly and professional contractor. We would definitely recommend him.

Andy remodeled my kithchen removing 3 weight bearing walls to open up my kitchen space. He did an excellent job, costs were very clear and he was very proffesional.

  • 5/5 stars January 17, 2011

This company has done a ton of stuff for me, from small things like installing a dishwasher, through roof repairs and tearing down walls to combine rooms, to building a very difficult retaining wall. I get the impression nothing is too small or too big. Prices are extraordinarily reasonable. I wouldn't call anyone else.

Question and answer

Q. Describe three recent jobs you've completed.

A. 3 recent jobs by Capstone General Contracting, Inc. (2013-2014)

At a water front house in North Seattle area I removed 6 small windows and installed 2 large windows 4 feet by 8 feet. I also rebuilt a bathroom and created all the cabinetry onsite. I built 2 custom vanities out of black bamboo with adjacent tall cabinets 20" wide and 96" tall, with interior receptacles for power. Matching wood mirror frames were built using recycled mirrors, set up on 2" stand offs allowing to be back-lighted via a occupancy sensor, as well as improvements in many more rooms.

For a repeat client, I completely refinished her basement, and refaced a fireplace with slate. LED lights and a vastly improved laundry space was created. The front loading washer and drier were installed in a 27" tall deck, I build a custom vanity base for a 18" by 48" commercial sink my client found. I reclaimed the old vanities removed from the water-front job above, and installed these two 48" vanities under a clothes folding surface 24" wide by 100". I covered that with bamboo flooring and edged the front lip with hardwood. All the window sills were 12" deep because it was a basement, so for her cats we tiled those, and tiled the walls around and behind the commercial sink giving lots of spaces for the kitties to sunbath without running loose outdoors. This client did a paper-bag flooring laminated in materials you would refinish a hardwood floor with. It looks incredible for this fantastic laundry space.

For the same client with the basement re-do, I gutted the old master bath, removed a wall, built another custom 72"x20" vanity with the same black bamboo. It is very bit as dark as black walnut of ebony wood. The custom vanity has with two round undermount sinks, granite tops, and also with a large recycled mirror, also stood off with backlighting which is automatic upon entry. At this job, we tiled the entire wall with those new style wood-look tiles 6" by 20" laid on the horizontal. These serve as the back-splash and continue to the ceiling around the mirror and behind the toilet. That tiled wall enters the tub surround, and covered the 3 walls for the tub/shower.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Homeowners have to do some planning before picking up the telephone. With your ideas for repair or remodeling on paper, this simple initial step saves you money. With remodeling projects you need a detailed scope of work and maybe drawings (blueprints) if it's a larger project. This is the best way to get competitive bids, and the best way to save a lot of headaches, time and money. Most importantly you have control over the end product. Without written plans, you have a lot less control and could spend wasted money making changes to things built wrong.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I have 30 years experience with a very broad range of high-level skills. I provide the customer with unmatched control over the job, starting with detailed line-by-line estimates so each step of the work is visible, and the cost for it is understandable. I provide the ability to have all the materials obtained at whole without the normal contractor mark ups.
Debris runs to recycling and disposal site are provided free of labor - Customers only pays dumping fees and small mileage fee.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I spent 23 years of my first life hiring contractors as a certified property manager. I know bad service and poor workmanship. I created a company out of that experience. From the first meeting to the final payment, I tailored my services to be top quality for an affordable price.

As a life long fine wood worker and finish carpenter I enjoy creating and working with people. I am neat and clean and treat every job like it's my own. Unconditional two year warranty on workmanship.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. I am very often asked what a project will cost before all the design details are decided. I understand it's natural to want to know the cost of options as the project is being designed.

My answer is prompt detailed research and prompt web-delivered replies with supplier quotes if needed to all design cost questions.
