Work was decent, cleanup was nice, and they were kind and courteous in person. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend them because communication was poor and we ended up overpaying just to be done with the job. We were quoted $380 on a Friday to move a bathroom fan from a low soffit to above the shower. They said it would be completed that day and that while they’d need to cut into the drywall, it would “look like nothing ever happened.” Midway through, they said they needed longer ducting and wiring, which would cost an extra “around $100” for materials. We agreed. They left for Home Depot, came back, and continued. Later, they said they ran into a wood block that slowed them down. They patched and mudded the drywall, but didn’t texture or paint the ceiling as originally discussed, due to running out of time. No big deal. But despite the job being unfinished, they still wanted the full payment. When we reminded them that texturing and painting were part of the original agreement, they claimed that was now “just a courtesy” that they “threw in” for us. We paid half, which is standard when a job is incomplete, and agreed to pay the rest once finished Monday. Over the weekend, we decided to complete the texture and paint ourselves so we could apply a moisture-resistant ceiling sheen. I texted them Sunday night letting them know they didn’t need to return and asked for a receipt for materials so I could pay the original $380 plus whatever they had spent. I also asked for a $50 reduction since we were finishing the texture and paint work. They sent a receipt showing only $35 in materials which felt dishonest after previously saying it was about ~$100. Still, no big deal we agreed to pay for the materials. But, right before payment, their quote and story changed. Suddenly, they said the $100 wasn’t just for materials but was also for labor and trips to Home Depot. They also framed the bid, cleanup, and driving as “courtesies” or favors, which is not how professional quotes should work. To make matters worse, they falsely claimed my husband agreed to these charges and said things he absolutely did not. We have these conversations recorded on our home security cameras. In the end, we paid the full amount they asked just to move on from it as they were adamant and unfair. The arguing back-and-forth, shifting story, and lack of transparency felt unprofessional and dishonest. They did not bring clarity to the conversation and were not understanding of our perspective or their poor communication. We typically rehire contractors we trust, but we won’t be working with them again. If you do hire them, get everything in writing. I wouldn’t not rely on verbal agreements.
