I've been a freelance visual designer for over a decade. I love finding the functional side of design; most of my recent work has been working with medical software interface and screen design for handheld devices.
I also work with several clients in the music industry, making album covers and e-newsletters. And I just finished designing an informational sign for a wetland.
That's the great thing about being a designer: always something new to think about!

Samantha is creative, fast, and flexible, and well versed in many styles, formats, software programs, and platforms, whether traditional design or digital. A real pleasure to work with! And very reasonable with her fees...

A. Look at examples of work similar to what you are thinking about to get ideas about what you do and don't like. Collect ideas and show them to your designer.
A. If you are going to use photos, make sure they are great! Also, trust your designer, but trust your instincts as well. A good designer will find the place where those things meet.
A. Determine what kind of project you are wanting (print, web, fun, serious, etc) and ask to see specific examples of that kind of project. Make sure your designer is skilled in what you want!
A. All the content should be ready to go. The amount and content of the text, or the style of the images, matters greatly to the designer. While it's normal for small changes to occur, it makes life easier (and makes the project cost less) if all content is available at the beginning.
