Introduction: Fighting Chance Seattle offers self-defense and kickboxing programs. Our self-defense for women program is available via group workshop, one-on-one lessons or as a corporate event. This program aims to educate and empower. Participants will learn self-defense strategy and practice proper body mechanics while striking padded targets. Our custom program relies on simple, effective techniques with no gimmicks and no nonsense. We also have a completely different self-defense program available for men. Our Kickboxing 101 program focuses on the fundamentals of kickboxing in dynamic, engaging group classes or one-on-one training. This program has four objectives, as follows: 1. Energetic, full-body workout 2. Stress relief and outlet for aggression 3. Cultivate mindfulness, concentration and self-discipline 4. Learn about martial arts culture and history Fighting Chance Seattle is a friendly, respectful, and nonintimidating environment for women and men of all levels of ability and fitness. Sensei Jordan Giarratano, the owner and instructor of Fighting Chance Seattle, is a martial arts expert with 19 years of training in a range of fighting styles, including Tang Soo Do karate, Muay Thai kickboxing, boxing, street self-defense, and grappling. FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I do many one-on-one lessons for either self-defense or kickboxing. A recent self-defense client was a young woman travelling to South America for the PeaceCorps. Her family wanted her to have some intensive self-defense training before her trip. Another recent self-defense client was an older gentleman who wanted to feel more confident when escorting his wife and daughters at night. We worked on specific techniques to end altercations quickly when words failed. My kickboxing clients tend to want a hard workout that is also mentally engaging. Some people get bored quick of cardio and strength training, kickboxing keeps you focused and having fun, hitting the pads and working with an expert trainer.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Beware of the many traditional martial arts gyms looking to make a buck by cobbling together a self-defense program. Ask about their teaching philosophy, strategy and techniques. I'm one of few martial arts teachers who will tell you that most martial arts techniques will not work in a real world situation.
