Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Look for a mediator/facilitator who knows how to help you reach your own decisions - not somebody who's going to give you their own answers. Partner with a mediator/facilitator who will use their expertise and experience to work with you to build your own solutions.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. We all need help when things get tough - when the decisions are hard, the conversations difficult, the communication breaks down, conflict arises and disputes flare. Instead of fighting, you can save thousands of dollars hiring a professional to work with you all to sort-through the problem. Work with a mediator/facilitator early so you build the solution, get back to your business and back to work.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. How long will the mediation/facilitation take?
When will we know if it's going to work? If we'll reach an agreement?
How much will it cost?
Can I have legal advice when I mediate?
What do I need to do to make it work?
Can you help me decide what's most important to me in this situation?
Can you help me communicate with the others involved?
Can you help me understand what my alternatives are?
Can I talk to you about how you work before I hire you?
What can you do if the others involved don't want to mediate?
Can you explain why it's not necessary to have a lawsuit to resolve a dispute using mediation?
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. Here are some questions to ask yourself ahead of time. But don't wait until you have all the answers to call.
What is it you really want as an outcome?
Of all the things you want, which ones are most important?
Of all the things you want, which ones are mutually exclusive - the "you can't have it both ways" things?
Are you committed to finding a solution?
Are you truly interested in a solution, or is there something about the conflict that you actually like having?
What will it take for you to explain to the others involved what's important to you in this?
What's your part in this situation? What are you responsible for in your circumstances?
Are you willing to listen to what's important to the others involved?
