IKEA wins!
We have discovered IKEA has beaten Best Buy in furniture construction. From now on, we will not be accountable for any damage to Best Buy compressed paper designed furniture. Even IKEA is questionable.
It is our opinion that people who buy these furniture brands should also get a big bottle of Gorilla glue. Carrier: The Home Depot.
Moving Tips:
1. We always advise our customers to use a lot of rope for loads.
2. We like hand packing tape, Scotch tear -- the best.
3. It is always better for local moves to rent a more big truck than you need and not too much; it is more expensive.
4. Load your heavy boxes at the bottom and the lighter stuff on top.
5. It's always a good idea to buy plastic mattress covers for newer mattresses, even those that you just want to keep very clean. U-Haul has them. Otherwise, let the mattress cover stay on it because it can always be washed.
6. Don't pack detergents and bottled bleach. We just had another incident of some well intended person packing laundry soap
onto an overseas bound container and one or two gallon bottles burst. It was sad. Bleach can do real damage.
7. We learned today that you can give your pet cat Kitty Valium for a trip that lasts for about 24 hrs.
8. We now know how to cover ABF cleated ramp with plywood to roll flat piano, dolly's, etc. on, if you are using one.
9. We know a family who owns a Maersk container, aluminum loading ramp. We could coordinate a rental. They are hard to get.
10. The rule of thumb to follow is the more wrapping, the better the result. Even newspaper and masking tape is better
than nothing.
11. What type of rope to buy? 3/8" inch nylon or fiber rope is the best. Try not to buy clothesline. How much? Usually 50'-100' ft. is adequate. More is sometimes needed on longer trucks/trailers respectively.
12. For wood furniture, we now recommend that it is better to cover it up with newspaper and masking tape than not to wrap it at all. You'll avoid scratches and dinging. Although moving pads and/or stretch wrap are better.
13. Tape all boxes on top and bottom. Boxes have a 75-lb. weight limit on average.
14. Keep the box of your flat screen TV and reuse them for packing. They cost more than $80.00 to buy at a moving store.
