Josie Zocco Piano Studio

Introduction: With over ten years of experience teaching all ages and levels, I strive to balance a positive and fun approach to teaching with an emphasis on diverse and structured lesson plans. I change my teaching style to fit the unique needs of each and every one of my students, and although every student is different, I believe in the importance and educational merit of teaching music theory along with different styles of piano. My goal is not only to create well-balanced musicians, but to foster in my students a life-long love and appreciation for music. Born in Toronto, Canada, I had my first piano lesson at the tender age of 3. That was the start of my lifelong passion not only for music, but for teaching, learning, and creativity. I took private piano lessons until university, where I attended York University in Toronto, Canada, and chose to study music, and graduated in 2007 with a bachelor of fine arts. Although my major was in classical piano performance, I also studied ragtime, blues, and jazz piano along with improvisation, accompaniment, and extensive music theory. Not content with solely learning the piano, I also dabbled in tabla, gamelan, violin, and guitar. In addition to attending university, I also received an associates degree in piano performance in 2008 from The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Canada. I studied abroad twice – first during the academic year 2005-2006 when I attended the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität in Freiburg, Germany studying musicology and German, and second in the summer of 2009 when I attended the Music Analysis Summer School in Durhum, U.K. After relocating to Seattle in the fall of 2011, I am excited to be living in a new city and expanding my student base here.
