FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have always been outgoing. I worked in the hospitality industry for many years. In fact, I was a concierge (French for guest services) at two large hotels in Seattle where I had to take care of whatever needs a guest might have. I learned how to multi-task, research questions, and meet the needs of the hotel guests in a timely manner, whether it was making a dinner reservation at a Seattle restaurant or reserving a lear jet for the weekend. When a friend of mine who had been working in the wedding industry for 22 years learned of my background, she recommended that I give officiating weddings a try. That was 3 years ago and I love my career. And I am so grateful that my friend made the suggestion that she did!
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Every wedding is different. I do weddings at outdoor city parks, beaches, and private homes. I also do weddings at big hotels and mansions. Each bride has her dream wedding planned and it is my job to make sure she also gets her dream ceremony. I am doing my first ceremony this summer where the bride and her father are going to arrive in a horse-drawn carriage. I'm excited to do that one!
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
First and foremost, if you are having a summer wedding, get your officiant lined up. Starting in March, many of us already have days "blacked" out in the summer due to the high demand for summer weddings. You don't want to wait until the last minute because then you may not get the type of officiant -- one that clicks with you and your fiance -- you want.
