A. Auto and Home liability insurance is important. Most people are underinsured - it is essential to have the proper amount of insurance. Cheap insurance isn't necessarily adequate insurance. It might be a little more expensive to insure youreself with higher liability limits, however, you end up potentially saving tens of thousands of dollars in the event you are found liable in an accident. To determine the right amount of insurance, you should calculate all of your property, investments, savings, and annual income. This number should be the "minimum" amount of liabilty insurance you carry, unless you don't mind losing one, more, or all of those things. Unfortunately, many insurers don't care, they just want to make the sale by offering the least expensive insurance. That isn't good business for the client. A good agent - client relationship is essential to ensuring you are insured adequately. This likely won't be accomplished with online only companies, or companies with 800 numbers who give you a customer service representative rather than an agent. Always share with your agent your net worth, so they can accurately determine the amount of liability you should carry. At least this way you will make a coverage decision based upon your risk tolerance rather than simply on price.
