To check out their license, and references. Consumer shouldn't be afraid to ask lot questions if needed. Specially if its going to require weeks or months with thousands of dollars involved. It's helps to know what you want. Lot of customers know what they don't like. It helps to have idea's and pictures to better explain your intentions as well as your dislikes. This helps me allot in my decisions as well to come to final product. Over the years I've made lot friends with people that I built there homes or did custom work for.
