Introduction: At Unleash Fido, "We Can Train Any Dog!" Greetings! My name is Travis Pepperkorn, the owner and trainer of Unleash Fido. I am a certified canine behavior specialist and graduated from Triple Crown Dog Academy. I have over 8 years of dog training experience, working with a wide variety of behaviors, including aggression, fear, basic obedience, and much more. My philosophy of dog training is based on motivation. I look at each dog as an individual, then create a curriculum based off of the dog and the family's needs! I believe that before a dog is expected to do a behavior, it should be shown or taught before being reinforced. I brought my dog, Ella, to Waylon for e-collar training in spring of 2011. Ella is a hound-mix that I adopted from a rescue. Since she was a puppy, she has had problems with obedience, major food aggression issues and running away. I had taken her through multiple obedience training, agility classes and had her go through a 6 week training with Jana Logghe to work on these issues. She came out of the 6 week training a completely different dog! She no longer had food aggression problems and she actually started listening to us when we gave her commands. However, when we let her outside, her nose took over, and she would run and not come back. We decided to bring Ella back to Northwoods Animal Learning Center and have her e-collar trained with Waylon. I cant even begin to describe how amazing the e-collar has been for us! Waylon did a fantastic job training Ella. Ella was a dog that could never be off leash, ever. She constantly had to be watched. After e-collar training, we can let her outside, whether we are out there or not, and she stays in the yard! When we call her she comes right away. If she does start to wander away and doesnt come when we call, all she needs is a quick reminder buzz from the e-collar, and she is on her way back to us. E-collar training has been the best training for our dog. We considered other alternatives, like an invisible fence, but we didnt want to go that route, because it wouldnt teach Ella to stay with us when we go for walks, or take her to someone elses house. We wanted a solution that would be permanent and would teach Ella to listen and not run away from us. I would definitely recommend Waylon to teach your dog e-collar training! I can not say enough times how wonderful this experience was for us. We have a changed dog!

My dog Bella was brought to Travis in June of 2014 due to aggression toward other dogs, people, children and a low confidence issue. She would use my parents and I as a protection blanket and would run "the show". She was with him for two months working on confidence with other dogs, kids and people. When the day came to take her home after living and working with Travis, Bella was a completely new confident laid back dog. Bella now goes everywhere with me. I don't worry about other dogs coming up to her or even kids petting her. She learned through Travis if she is not comfortable with a situation, Bella will simply take herself out of the situation and go sit and watch, it's truely amazing. Before, if a dog were to run up to her she would become aggressive and bare teeth, now, Bella has even let a dog jump on her while she has just stood there! She has been excited to see other dogs, lays down while kids pet her and can switch to different environment with so much confidence that I am in control of the situation I bring her in! I couldn't imagine living without Bella and Travis made that possible! She listens incredibly well, coming when I call, eager to learn new tricks and never tugs on a walk! Bella has been nothing but an amazing transformation that couldn't have been done without Travis!

After reviewing several trainers and facilities online, and then calling to speak with each to learn their philosophies and thoughts on puppy training, I chose to take my new puppy Jaxon to Travis at Unleash Fido. Travis was enthusiastic and very easy to talk to about my wishes and concerns for the newest addition to my family. Basic puppy training and good behavior were my goals for Jax and Travis asked me as many questions as I was asking him (a good thing). He watched and assessed my relationship with Jaxon as soon as we arrived for training, and began his instruction right away. Jaxon responded very well to Travis and never acted worried or skittish during any of the behavior changes we progressed through. Even when our training sessions were complete (6 individual, 1hr+ sessions), Travis continued to check in with me on Jaxon's progress. I would highly recommend Travis and hope to continue with additional training for Jaxon in the future. Thank you Travis!!!

We had our dog trained last December and it was the best gift to our family. Our dog was aggressive. I was worried he was untrainable. After a boot camp with Travis and pet owner follow ups our dog is so much better! Our entire home is better now. Nobody wants to give up their friend and nobody wants the anxiety that their dog is going to harm someone. Travis was my solution.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Do not base it on a website. Set up an evaluation to meet the trainer in person. Make sure they have dealt with an issue like yours before and what the program designed for your dog intales. Ask questions; where did they go to school, who are they certified through, do they have references, do they have a demo dog, how long have they been training dogs, and are they currently participating in any dog sports?
